This is directed to the Brunonians on this board. What schools (if any) did you decline offers of admission to go to Brown? Also, was there a school other than Brown that was your top choice that you applied to and did not get in?

I applied and was accepted ED. Chose Brown over any other school, and not once have regretted my decision.

I will ans for dd. Chicago and Berkeley. Waitlisted at Yale but declined it.

Chose Brown over WUSTL, Emory, and Hopkins. Princeton was originally my top choice (deferred then rejected) and it’s hard to imagine that I would have actually loved Princeton more than I ended up loving Brown and never even thought twice about choosing it over the other 3.

May I make this suggestion for new admits? These threads invariably quickly turn into Brown is better than A, B and C.

Everyone who attends Brown either applied to, possibly were accepted/rejected from a bunch or at least considered seriously other colleges. For one reason or another, Brown wone them over.

Should it be sufficient to say that if you attend Brown, hopefully your time in Providence will be or was fantastic. Be glad.

These threads turn out to be bragging and slagging threads – quickly becoming unseemly. Some other forum can easily contain posters who say they declined Brown. You can’t honestly say you can’t imagine what your fellow Brown students’ list of alternative colleges look like? You can’t honestly say that to post your list of “declines” is humblebragging?

Plz don’t participate .

@T26E4: I never intended this thread to turn into “humblebragging.” I posed these questions to get a sense of the thought processes of seniors who were admitted to multiple “top” colleges and what eventually drew them to Brown. I’m more interested in what made them think Brown was their best choice rather than why all of the other colleges they declined were bad or somehow had faults to them.

^that makes sense NYG. I’ve just seen threads similar like this devolve into a “My school is so much better than these schools I’m rejecting” ramblings which are just snotty and entitled.

Your question makes lots of sense. Perhaps: “What made you decide Brown vs. other schools that were in top contention?”

Yeah, I agree with t26e4 (even though I participated), would have been better to lead with the question you had in your last post OP, your 1st post doesn’t ask for a reason.

For me it was simple: Open Curriculum. I think with Princeton I couldn’t quite pull myself away from the prestige and the much nicer facilities than Brown has (neither of which are actually important).

Brown was in a tie for #2 on my list so after the Princeton rejection and a rejection from the other #2 school it became obvious.
