You have applied to the UC’s so what is your next step?

Below are the UC Decision dates from 2022 for Freshman applicants:

UCB: Early admits on Feb 11, 2022. All other decisions on March 24.
UCLA: Friday March 18 at 5 PM PST.
UCSD: Friday March 18 around 4:30 PST
UCSB: March 22, 2022 around 2:15 PM PST
UCI: CHP admits March 11, 2022. The rest of the Decisions on March 18, 2022.
UCD: Friday March 11, 2022
UCSC: 1st Wave starting Friday February 25th. 2nd Wave March 15th.
UCR: Rolling Waves starting March 2, 2022
UCM: Rolling Waves starting March 2, 2022

  1. Check your email regularly for setup instructions for each campuses application/student portal. Make sure that you check your Junk/Spam folder. Instructions for each campus should be emailed to all applicants by Mid-December. Your application/student portal is where you need to check for additional materials required for your application review and where you will check for your UC Decision.

  2. Changing majors on your UC application after submission: https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/_files/documents/f23-major-change-campus-instructions.pdf

  3. Keep up your grades (C or higher in your Senior classes) or your provisional admission can be rescinded and remain engaged. Most importantly, enjoy your Senior year of High school.

  4. Changes to your academic record such as any grade below a C Senior year OR changing/dropping courses will require applicants to update the UC campuses. Below is what campuses accept changes and how to contact them: Campus instructions & websites for reporting changes:

  • Berkeley will not accept post-submission updates. Any updates that are sent will not be considered in the application reading process.
  • Davis
  • Irvine
  • Merced - Post-submissions updates are only accepted if you are admitted. Click on the “myCourseUpdate” link in your connect portal.
  • UCLA - Some post-submission updates will be accepted. Visit the UCLA contact page for further details.
  • Riverside
  • San Diego
  • Santa Barbara will not accept post-submission updates. Any updates that are sent to our office will not be considered in the application reading process.
  • Santa Cruz

Information on UC Regents:
Amount: Awards vary by campus and are not transferable to another UC campus. CA students with additional financial need can receive a higher monetary amounts.

  • UC Berkeley $2,500- Interview required and prospective Regent scholars are notified as an Early Admit in February. For 2022, it was February 11.
  • UC Davis $7,500- Recipients notified at time of decision
  • UC Irvine $5,000- For 2022, Recipients notified on Decision Day March 18
  • UCLA $2,000- Regent invites went out on March 21, 2022 after the decisions. Special passcode to fill out the form given through the UCLA portal. Recipients notified April 22, 2022**
  • UC Merced $7,000- Recipients notified at time of decision
  • UC Riverside $10,000- Recipients notified March 10, 2022
  • UC San Diego $5,000- Recipients notified at time of decision
  • UC Santa Barbara $5,000- Recipients notified via snail mail around March 26, 2022
  • UC Santa Cruz $5,000- Recipients notified March 3, 2022

In addition, certain perks are provided to Regents recipients: priority registration (not at UCSB), extended library privileges, honors dormitories, faculty mentorship, and others, dependent upon campus.

**Alumni scholarship notifications for UCLA went out January 10, 2022. This scholarship is not indicative of an acceptance unlike Regents and was sent to around 60% of the UCLA applicants last year. Apply if interested but no negative repercussions if you elect not to apply.

Do Transfer decisions generally happen at the same? Thx!

No UC transfer decisions are posted in April. I do not have the timelines from last year for Transfers but you can tediously check the Transfer discussion threads to find out the specific dates.

@gumbymom Thanks again for another very useful post/thread. Do you happen to know if filing FAFSA and/or CSS is required for Regents scholarships on any UC campus? I know it can potentially increase the scholarship amount if you qualify, but wonder if it’s required even if a student would not qualify for financial aid.

If you wish to demonstrate financial need to determine if you are eligible for a Regents need award, then file your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by March 2

You do not need to file the FASFA for the Regents scholarship award since it is Merit based but only for additional need-based aid. If you are not eligible for any need-based aid, then you do not need to file.
