Turned down Columbia and Univ. of Chicago. $$ were a factor.

My reason for Umich > Penn is that I am one of those people who paints their face for football games and screams at the top of his lungs with friends in the stands, and I couldn't see myself at a place where that wasn't the norm

I'm glad Penn rejected me because I would have gone there if I had been accepted...uber-happy I ended up being semi-forced, but still falling in love with, Michigan.

Chicago was my first choice, but I got waitlisted there. When I visited Michigan, I realized that I could still get the same intellectual community in the honors and higher level classes, while taking fluff classes for the fun of it and actually getting out once in a while. Thus, un-accepting my place on Chicago's waitlist.

Darn Vandy just sent me $20,000. Still going to Michigan with $8,000...take that, Vanderbilt!

(But how I hate this situation...I mean, I guess Vanderbilt fulfilled their goal of making me think, "Hmm...maybe I WILL change my mind...ahhhh!!! Confused!" But gosh, colleges are mean!)

Very interesting, I got rejected from Penn too, I would have went there if accepted, but as I keep looking into Michigan, things are looking better...btw, how do you get into the honors program? Can people accepted from the waitlist still get into the honors program?

I'm just doing the Honors Math stuff...maybe I should have accepted a place in the honors program, but I didn't feel like getting a restricted schedule, which is probably not that big of a deal, but oh well. I'd already studied all but 1 of the books in Great Books (assuming the list they gave me is the same every year) during high school anyway. And I'm already staying at Martha Cook.

When I visited Michigan, they said that the last day to apply to the honors program was...well...that day. So I don't think you can get into the honors program now. There was an "optional" essay. However, you can apply again at the end of 1st semester for 2nd semester.

Ya, I just sent an email to the honors program to see if I could be reviewed for the program, this waitlist stuff....Its like they didn't plan for me to come or something, so we are all running around at the last minute trying to get things together, I don't even know my orientation date

it is to my knowledge, that u dont apply to the honors program ,u just got accepted to it, i remember last year, i got into the honors program literally a few days after my initial acceptance package had arrived.

The letter I received said you can ask the honors committee to review your application for admittance

Yeah, that's what I thought they did...but then when I visited, they told me different, the liars!

Hehe...yeah, I'm spending way too much time on college confidential.

Normally they just accept you, but if you want, you can send them your info and they have to at least consider it, but i dont know anyone who's gotten in that way.

I got in that way. I emailed them and got a reply that night. It's definitely worth trying if you're interested.

took UM (>$10k/year IS) over Penn with $22k/year (and BFS and Roy Vagelos) and Swarthmore...some days I wonder if I made the right decision :/

You cannot go wrong with Michigan cranium.

Is the honors program really that beneficial? It seems like the regular LSA would be easier to maintain a higher GPA, whereas the honors courses are more difficult, albeit more personal and intimate.

The curve is easier in the honors college, but the standards are higher.
