What are you going to turn down for UMich?

So, just write down names of colleges that you will turn down for UMich class of 2016 this fall;)
And which ones you will choose over Michigan.
Let see how students rank this university!

I would pick Brown, Claremont Mckenna, Pomona, and Stanford over Michigan. I am picking Michigan over UofMiami, and Occidental College.

Berkeley and Georgia Tech (only applied to four schools total).

The whole ivy league (minus Princeton & Columbia), Stanford, UCB, UCLA, and Vandy.

Only one way to go. Go Blue!

^Did you even apply to all those schools? I think albina meant schools that you were also admitted to that you’re willing to turn down.

My D is turning down acceptances to U. of Wisc., U of Washington, Penn State, UCLA (probably!) for U. of Mich.

Pitt
Penn State
Georgetown

My son is turning down MSU, Notre Dame and NYU for Michigan. He was waitlisted for Cornell and had he been accepted there it would have been a very tough call for him. As it is he’s very excited to be a Wolverine next year!

@goldenboy: Yes, I applied to the whole ivy league, plus Stanford, Duke, and Vanderbilt. I was accepted everywhere but Columbia and Princeton.

I will be turning down all these places to come to Michigan. Like I said, only one way to go. Go Blue.

I’m like 90% sure going to Michigan and I’d be turning down Maryland, Indiana, and American all with admission to their business schools and generous scholarships.

Also turning down waitlists from Brandeis, GW, and Tulane if that counts for anything.

Turning down University of Illinois UC and Case Western, even though both schools offered almost full tuition grants. GO BLUE!!!

sjkim1494, I would sincerely encourage you to go to UIUC with that kind of grant.

Damn guys, you are really patriotic:)

“sjkim1494, I would sincerely encourage you to go to UIUC with that kind of grant.”

Perhaps money is not an issue with him/her test101. If that be the case, it is perfectly reasonable to turn down Illinois for Michigan.

“Only one way to go. Go Blue!”

I like it! ;)

aahs12, like you, I turned down several Ivies (and other top private universities) in favor of Michigan. The decision was the right one. After college, your Michigan degree will given equal weight, but your college experience will have been much fuller. Wise choice. There are literally thousands of students at Michigan who turned down other top universities to attend Michigan because of its unbeatable undergraduate experience.

I doubt many turn down Harvard or Stanford for a state school, even one as good as Michigan. That person indicated in February that he only applied to Columbia (rejected), Michigan, and Kalamazoo.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/13918303-post160.html

hippo, I knew several students at Michigan who turned down Harvard and Stanford (as well as MIT, Princeton and Yale) in favor of Michigan. Some had financial incentives to do so while others did so for personal reasons. It is not common, but it certainly happens. Once you get past those five, Michigan often becomes the university of choice, regardless of the alternative. I personally would choose Michigan over Yale, though not over Stanford or Princeton. I am not a fan of Harvard or MIT, but they are so good that, if given the choice, I would find it hard to turn them down. I personally turned down Brown, Chicago, Columbia, Cornell and Penn (among others) in favor of Michigan.

Son is turning down Georgetown SFS for U-M, plus U Wisconsin, Tulane, Miami, U of Florida. Tulane and Miami offered very generous merit scholaraships. A year ago he would have died to get into G’town to study IR, but now doesn’t want to be “locked” into that course of study. He says he may decide to change majors once he gets to college plus he really wants the large “traditional” university experience with sports , Greek life etc. He loved Michigan and Ann Arbor when he visited for Campus Day and got into the LSA Honors program. I hope he doesn’t regret turning down G’town as it has great internship opps if he does decide to stick with IR/ Int’l Studies.

Oh, and he was waitlisted at WUSTL and Northwestern.

Good job hippo2718!!! on digging up aahs12 past post.
Obviously, on an anonymous board people can say that they turned down 6 Ivies to go to Michigan
