@vkcollege, its seems to me that YA’s choice of words are deliberately vague as well. Still notifying, as in there are still HM and M winners who have not been contacted at all, or still sending out packets to HM and M winners who received an e-mail from them? I think it is very interesting that YA is able to keep up the drama for all this time!

parentals- I’m right there with you.

I feel that there is a much easier notification process YoungArts can use. Why don’t they just post the winners and be done with it all. Countless other competitions do just that. I was debating on not applying to YoungArts for this very reason, too much drama. It does making winner that much more exciting.

Yes, they were very vague, but were clear that an email from Columbia saying that he had been recognized didn’t mean anything. I agree that posting the winners on the website would be a great way to notify everyone. Even if they did it in stages by the different achievement levels.

ForeverFish, This is the same letter I got from Columbia and have heard nothing from YA…so not sure what that means…that everyone gets this email that checks the box that colleges can contact you and view results, etc. or that maybe I may have gotten HM or Merit but not notified yet…I guess time will tell.

I noticed that someone tweeted that they had received a rejection letter. So I am sure the drama will continue!

Leela, D received the same email from Columbia (she applied MT to Young Arts) and I am sure it means absolutely nothing. Very poor wording on the university’s part. D was at first confused but then shrugged and said there is no way I’m getting into Columbia and moved on (good attitude for an MT kid, they are used to rejections!). Also, she has a friend who attends Interlochen and got one of those regional emails (no mention in his letter if he was a HM or Merit - it as a confusing email) last week so she knew there was no way she was recognized in any way shape or form.

Note to dreamatinydream - the girl who WON the Jimmy Awards in 2012 was a YA honorable mention so whatever, right?

They have sent out rejection letters. I check Tumblr and I have seen many YoungArts rejection letters post.

OMG we got the Columbia U email too

ok, not “we” but is sure feels that waY

I finally got my rejection letter for Photography from YoungArts. The Photography rejection letter was date November 20th. Just waiting on my Poetry and Writing decision letters.

Has anyone been notified that they got accepted recently? Because I want to know that there is still hope for theater students because I haven’t heard anything about theater students being accepted or rejected yet :(

If your weren’t notified by email by YoungArts then you are not a winner this year. Winners of all kinds have been notified already by email.

@wrencher94 You are most likely correct. But there have been stories in previous years of people receiving rejection letters and then getting calls that they are finalists in another discipline (these are people who applied in more than one). Just saying.

I agree that they should just post the finalists, HM and Merit all at once and be done with it. The rumor mill is really silly and, frankly, it sounds like every discipline is on a different schedule. Still have heard nothing. Will continue to hold out hope until we have the rejection in our hands.

Woah, guys, Listen. from what the guy at Young Arts said when we called, there is still hope for those of you hoping for Merit or HM. He told us they would be choosing and notifying those into the second week of December.

Still Choosing!? I called and was told that winners have already been notified by e-mail, and that they are just sending off congratulations packets to merit and HM. Smh, so glad that this is my last year of eligibility, YoungArts is a headache.

@Molly6: As nice as that would be, I think they’ve finished notifying all winners at this point. Even if winners haven’t yet received the actual packet in the mail, they should have received the winners’ email about regional programs (text below):

–
The program will be available to you on a first come first served basis at no cost to you. As a participant, you will be responsible for travel (ground transportation, baggage fees, etc.), airfare, and accommodations.

Please email … (subject line: Miami RSVP; LA RSVP; OR NY RSVP) by Tuesday, November 26, 2013 to confirm your request to participate in one of these programs. Your name will be placed on a waiting list on a first come first served basis. Participation packets will be emailed on Friday, December 4th and must be completed by Wednesday, December 11.

Participation is limited to ONE program, and depends on available space. If we do not receive your RSVP and materials by the deadlines noted above, you will risk forfeiting eligibility to participate.

The registration deadline was this Tuesday, so any winners who still haven’t received the email would be at a very severe disadvantage when it comes to participating in the regional programs.

I think it depends on the person you speak to at YA, the questions you ask, the day of the week, the discipline . . . and who knows what else? Last year, there were kids posting for days after all the rejections were meant to have been received, saying they had heard nothing.

@ForeverFish, you are most likely right. But what if there are two or more waves of signing up? It seems to me that anything is possible when it comes to YA.

@wrencher94, yes, it does seem that YA is a headache, but that doesn’t stop people from applying!

@Parentals: It’s possible but unlikely, IMO. It would be much easier to notify everyone at the same time, with one email.

In any case, everyone will know their status for certain when the winners’ list is officially released, likely sometime within the next week. (Last year it was on 12/6.)
