=D> ^:)^ Kudos @OhPearl!!! That’s poppin’!!! B-)
I didn’t get anything but it’s cool-- I’ve learned some stuff from the first time around and so hopefully that’ll help me some next year!!
[-O< PRAYING FOR Y’ALL!! [-O<
I didn’t get anything either, but i agree. This competition seems a bit rigged. I know some great singers who only got merit or nothing. I go to an arts school so i know many people who applied, and honestly, i dont even know how youngarts ranks the talent. Looking at finalist videos, many of them are not as good as some people who applied and got nothing. Also, perhaps youngarts doesnt look at every submission? Maybe they look at enough to have a list, and then just stop. It would make sense as to y so many great people didnt make the list and y it seems rushed… i mean, they do through 11000 applicants veryyy quickly
In other words…it might be a good idea to apply early in the thing instead of last minute?
I got nothing. It was expected.
I received HM in classical voice. I’m bummed. I was HM last year too and I so wanted to have Improved and become a finalist. I know I should be grateful, but I am sad and happy all wrapped up in one.
I am shocked to see people I know get nothing. You guys need to know how very talented you all are and to not let one comp get you down or let you lose focus.
I am talking to myself too.
I didn’t get anything.
To everyone who didn’t get anything, please don’t let this competition define you! We are all talented artists. Remember that when one door closes, others will open. I was heartbroken when I didn’t see my name on that list (like tears and everything, lol), but my mom had to give me that little boost. Just remember that not being a YoungArts winner does not define you career. For all you know, you might become a best selling writer. When the judges realize they rejected you, they’ll be the ones that will feel crazy.

Yeah, I didn’t get anything either.
K, so I’m disappointed on behalf of my daughter, but, last year she got a nice, standard, rejection email- sort of, “we are fortunate to have had so many talented people compete…”. This year there was an email that said, “Congratulations to our 2016 Winners”. Then provided the link to follow so you can search. Followed by, “you have the opportunity to…” donate to help all these wonderful opportunities that you were not good enough to win to continue for such great talent…Is it just me, or is that a little, cold.
I’m pleased for my daughter who got HM for the 2nd time, but Its is a compition that seems to be handled differently from one year to the next, I agree. It could be more uniform and consistent. That being said, it’s absolutely what our very talented, wonderful children are facing if they want a career in the arts.
How do we sign up for regional programs? Also, I haven’t received an email still, although I am a HM winner…
merit
My daughter received HM - saw it on the list, but no official communication received yet. Last year I seem to remember she got a “no” email a number of days after the list was published.
HM this year (probably the last year I can do it…) - I do wish YoungArts would do it the same way each time; I much preferred them sending out everyone’s notifications at the same time the way they did last year.
Since I’m pretty desperate to find out why I didn’t get anything, here’s a link to a short story I submitted. I’d really appreciate feedback
Overall, very moving piece. But I think maybe it wasn’t chosen because some of sentences and sentence structure was way too literal. They obviously wanted people to come up with grand metaphors and for it to have an earth shattering theme and complex characters within 20 pages double spaced and sometimes it isn’t possible. But definitely keep working on it, It holds real promise!
Honorable mention in music!!
Thanks for the feedback!
@balletfreak1999 I’m a mom - and I’m not a writer, but I read a lot! . I really loved it! Some of the detail was amazing. I felt like I was at the funeral with you. The only thing that didn’t seem realistic (in my amateur opinion) was your dad asking, “Why so brooding?” Could anyone really be that clueless? Why don’t you submit this to the Scholastic Writing Contest? Writing is so subjective - what one person loves, another might not. Maybe they’ll give you a gold key!
