Aw, this really means a lot. Thank you
How do the regional program waitlists work?
RSVP immediately. it’s first come first serve. HM before merit on the list, too.
Oh! How fast do they usually fill up? The initial email I got only said I could be placed on the waitlist. Was anyone able to just directly RSVP?
@musicfreak97 you don’t know or have seen 80% of the music winners.
Some, but certainly not most.
What national summer programs have you participated in?
My daughter didn’t get anything either and she is an extremely talented ballet dancer with huge potential. She attended some very exclusive summer intensives including ABT New York and is trained by a retired ABT dancer. She has won several scholarships over the past couple of years and is currently auditioning for companies and training programs all over the world. What one person sees as talent, others do not. This is the arts and it is based on interpretation. I am disappointed for her but I know this is just another competition and it is not going to determine who she is or where she is going. I hope you all feel the same and don’t let this derail you from your dream. I hope you will continue to pursue your passion and let this experience help you to grow as an artist.
@ClarinetDad16 Tanglewood, Interlochen, Aspen and many more
I may not have personally met 80%, but I recognize that many names. I say 80% but it may be more or less. I’m not going to count up how many exactly I know.
Has anyone heard anything about regionals? Their email said people would be notified on December 18th.
Yes, emails went out with the link to RSVP. RSVPs were due by 12/16. Were you wait listed?
@coloraturakid - confused - are you referring to anything other than the first email congratulating on the win and then describing the regionals with a link to be placed on the WL? My daughter waitlisted herself within an hour of receiving that email and has heard nothing since - hoping for some good news today. One thing on YA said people would hear on the 18th and another said “before the 21st”.
@rampions, I don’t mean to be confusing
my D got the email and she RSVP’d. no waitlist. then she was sent the email to fill out all her details: bio, headshot, birth certificate. etc. that deadline was 12/16.
she did the NYC regionals last year as well, but I’m not sure if it’s “fist come first serve” or if it’s done in order of how the student places in the compition: Finalist, HM, Merit or based on where you actually live.
see, I haven’t helped at all…have I?
@coloraturakid I believe that it is first come, first serve. However, winners living in a certain proximity around Miami, New York, or Los Angeles are given priority and are allowed to reserve a spot at the program - winners living outside the areas are asked to sign up for placement on the waitlist.
In past years, level of designation (finalist, HM, or Merit) did not play a role in deciding who on the waitlist gets priority status. Its based purely on who got on the waitlist first, and how many spots are available depending on the discipline.
thanks @MandomeLife that sounds right!
@coloraturakid and @MandomeLife now it’s beginning to make sense - thanks for the combined explanation - and make me agitated! The information on the congratulatory letter didn’t explain any of this and we interpreted “waitlist” as just a general “hold” list for all, until sorted out. So, since we literally replied within six minutes of receiving the email (happened to be at the computer at the time it arrived) we thought it was virtually a certainly that my daughter would be a participant, because we didn’t know about the whole live within proximity thing (and we’re actually pretty close to NYC…maybe just outside the limit, who knows?) meaning no waitlist. The letter did say it was all based on time stamped entries with no ranking of finalist, etc (my daughter is HM) or anything like that.
Now I’m worried, as my daughter presumed she would be going and has been incredibly excited about it and will be pretty crushed if it doesn’t happen. Hopefully we’ll find out, either way, later today - I won’t be informing her of any of this until then.
I replied on behalf of my daughter 38 minutes after the invite email. What I have heard is that if you are in region and could be a day tripper, you don’t have to be put on the wait list, otherwise you are. We received the same info as @rampions and are also hoping for good news today or Monday. YA told me time stamp and room in the program are what matter, not level of award. Great that your daughter’s in, @coloraturakid! Are you close to the city she’s going to?
@letterhead - thanks - we are definitely that close - now have to decide if it’s obnoxious to call them about it…Good luck!
@letterhead. thank you, yes, we live in NYC.
She did the NYC regional last April & 70% of the students she performed with ( voice, instrumental, drama & MT) were from the tristate area.
We replied to the email within 24 hours.
I hope everyone gets there notification soon!
@letterhead, @coloraturakid @MandomeLife - it didn’t take me long to decide on being (hopefully not) obnoxious! I called and they explained the whole deal - and it’s much as you thought. First of all, they won’t be making the notifications until the end of the day on the 21st.
At least in relation to NYC - it is a “commuter” program, as they described it, and as such, slots are offered automatically to those living in the city and within a certain radius - the person I spoke to wasn’t sure exactly but thought it might be 20 miles. After all confirmations are received from that group of participants (which was the 16th deadline), then they fill any remaining openings through the combination of category and time stamp, filling up each so that they are balanced (I don’t know if it is exactly equal numbers for each). I don’t know about the LA and Miami regional programs.
I hope this helps. I’ve gone from excited about the email coming today to a little bit nuts learning about how it is actually set up, to being pretty hopeful again as of course I went through the list, geographically, and in my daughter’s particular category there appear to be very few who would have had automatic invites - but of course I don’t know whether they take 2 or 3 in each category, or 9 or 10, etc. - not a clue.
Augh, just got email saying, “We’ll let you know Monday!”
We are not in any regions, so she signed up for LA as the dates were best. @coloraturakid, happy your daughter will be able to go for the second year. @rampions, sounds like your response time was incredibly quick, so if there’s any justice in this world, she’ll never have to know she was ever in peril!
From my daughters experience last April in the NYC regional. I’d say it’s 2-4 in each category.
