He is something alright. :)

NY_democrat, due to bias? i’m not sure if i understand that.

they tied but the olympics does not allow ties. there were rules set out before the games. rules are rules. why bias?

Guo Jingjing, Alexander Despatie, Elena Isinbayeva, Kirsty Coventry, and Dayron Robles, in no particular order.

“Alexandre Despatie”

OMGOD SO CUTE!

I would totally do Jiang Yuyuan if the investigation finds that she’s of legal age.

^who’s that?

Bias because firstly, clearly any unbiased judge recognized that Nas. was a superior gymnast - after all, that chinese youngster landed on her knees and overall had a relatively mediocore performance. Thus, if it was unbiased, and not catering to one of the world’s worst dictatorships that slaughters and enslaves its own people, Nas. would have won.

However, they were tied exactly to the point. Olypmics do allow double gold medals normally, but suddenly in this one they didn’t. So, instead, they put it through a random process taking away various numbers. However, by the process, eventually they took numbers away so that it took more from the Americans than China, causing China to gain a slight edge in the re-calculations. They put the numbers and the specific calculations on the screen - there was no bias in the reporting, because those were just the hard numbers, nothing more.

Absolutely pathetic. There is no reasoning that that little youngster was better than Nastia, because the numbers say what they say - they were equal, leaving the bias aside.

China, instead of doing the smart move and sharing the gold medal, showing the world its desire to work with the west and our international cooperation, has stolen the medal, and in the process, made countless Americans hate even more the government of China, seeing this as proof that they are corrupt and injust, and cause unnecesary hate against ethnic Chinese.

I’m absolutely disgusted with that act. Hopefully someday soon the government of China will be toppled and we can have a true democracy in China, for all humans deserve better. I say this as a Chinese American citizen. I initially felt a bit of chinese patriotism at the Olypmics, but that all fell away as I saw them cheat and steal the medal.

“Bias because firstly, clearly any unbiased judge recognized that Nas. was a superior gymnast - after all, that chinese youngster landed on her knees and overall had a relatively mediocore performance.
NY_democrat, that’s only YOUR opinion. i thought BOTH were great with only a slight difference. the chinese girl’s routine “IMO” seemed more difficult than liukin’s.

anyone can argue with what we both just said. i don’t buy the reason behind the biased decision that you stated. no offence. b/c it was just a personal opinion.

btw, the judges WERE NOT all and only chinese. i read somewhere that there were actually none. so your word choice of “steal” is a little harsh don’t you think? it was not based on CHINA’s decision. so what if it’s the host country? doesn’t mean that it rules over everyone else.

rules are rules. even you said that they USUALLY allow double gold medals. maybe this was just not the case here?
i’m sure that if liukin and the chinese girl were switched around…most americans probably would not even care.

and for the idk-how-many-times, the tie breakers were fair b/c it was what they HAD to do. it would’ve been great if both were awarded gold medals. but since they had to choose one, the way by which they did it was IMO pretty much fair and reasonable. i don’t get how that’s qualified as “steal”. plz no one include the age issue in this…

GUO JING JING! (Please don’t kill me as I’ve probably misspelled her name.)

you got it right! i think. lol

Also, am I the only one who doesn’t like Nastia? Shawn just seems so nice and genuine. Nastia seems so superficial and arrogant.

Oh c’mon, no one even mentioned the Paraguayan javelin thrower Leryn Franco?! Mmmm, can she grip a javelin!

i like shawn johnson much better. she seems like a very sweet and genuine girl. liukin is a great gymnast…but she’s just not as likable as shawn

I’m a straight male, so I didn’t notice this. I like him because he’s Canadian. (I kind of ignored the last few words in the title, so I was talking about my favorite athlete. I’m not a big fan of Franco, but I agree with BedHead.)

Remember Paul Hamm? He shouldn’t have won the gold medal for the all-around, but he did. There is no conspiracy against America. Even if Nastia Liukin was better, judges make mistakes, and there is no proof of conscious bias.

Ummm…does “any unbiased judge” mean you? When I saw it, I personally preferred He Kexin. Landing poorly does not rule you out. It is just a deduction, and if your performance other than the deduction and your start/difficulty value (which was higher for most Chinese gymnasts) was higher, you would still have a shot. I wouldn’t make serious claims about bias without the evidence to back them up.

No, the IOC will rarely allow double golds, the only exception I can think of being with the Canadian figure skaters when the Russian judge was bribed. The process may not have been appropriate, but it was certainly fair - the outcome could’ve gone either way. It was not a “random process”, by any means - they just removed some more of the bottom and top scores.

She may be underage, but if you’re going to call her “the little youngster” instead of He Kexin, you have no credibility whatsoever. I think her medals should be stripped, but there is no reason to make claims of bias without evidence.

This was not China’s decision. They didn’t steal the medal. Attack the IOC if you want, but don’t blame China when there’s no evidence they “stole” the medal. Also, I don’t think Chinese people really care if Americans hate them.

I like Natasia Liukin. So sad for her that she won a lot of silver, not gold

well, if you’re talking about this current olympics, then it would have to be shawn johnson
however, favorite olympian of all time has to definitely be andre agassi :)

I’m a particular fan of the US volleyball team: Lee, Priddy, and Stanley.
I like Franco because she is hot.
And Bryan Clay as well.

EAMON SULLIVAN.
I was besotted with Michael Phelps but this Aussie swimmer is even more delectable!

From a completely platonic POV, I also like Shawn Johnson. And Nastia Liukin’s legs.

Natalie Coughlin
