Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

The restaurant said no codes–when I tried to buy another with the code, got the error message, no codes. Still $20 for $35 worth of food is a good value. Will likely go there over the holidays with the family & should be able to feed all 4 of us for that or perhaps a bit more.

I bought a bunch of the restaurant certificates also. We eat out a lot, so it really helps, especially when trying new restaurants. I don’t buy the certificates for restaurants we frequent regularly, just new ones we have been wanting to try. Nothing makes my husband more annoyed than paying a lot of money for a lousy meal! At least with the certificates, if it is really bad, we won’t be out too much, lol.

There are only 5 or 6 restaurants AT ALL within 30 miles of my zip code. I bought one certificate to the one restaurant I have been to recently. It’s OK there but with the discount from the certificate, it will be more palatable. :)

The restaurants near my D’s zip code in LA are ones I don’t recognize any of the names of; same with the restaurants near my SIL’s zip code in SF. Oh well, not sure I want to buy any of them with no idea if they’re actually in business or knowing anything about any of them.

In store today, this $250 jacket was on sale for $150 plus another 40% off. Final price was around $95. I almost bought it—was very nice looking and a man in the store modeled it for me. If any is interested, it runs very small so go up at least a size.

I ended up buy a different $250 jacket that was on sale for $150 plus another 40% off. It’s a black/white donnegal jacket. I liked it a little better than the jacket above because it didn’t have the shoulder epaulets. Final price was around $95.

They had some great sales today with an additional 40% off the sale price.

Wanted to get my son those Isotoner gloves with the Smart Phone finger tips. Went to Kohls. They had NO mens gloves at all…but DS’s hands are the same size as mine…small. So I went over to the women’s department. They had bunches of them in grey and black. $42. The “sale” price was supposedly $24. Fine…this is what happens when you do your shopping on Dec 23. I got to the register they rang up $21. AND I told the clerk I had a 20% off coupon which I forgot to bring…she included that too…score…gloves were $17. If he doesn’t want them, I’ll keep them! Oh…and I got two really nice long sleeve V neck shirts…$4 each at Kohls (oh plus 20% off of that).

I went to GW too…and really hit the jackpot there. You know…when someone brings your size in…you just gotta keep looking. Got brand new Clarks shoes, Columbia cords (tags on them), four long sleeve t shirts (all good brand names), a really cute pair of crop pants for next summer (Talbots), and a Max Studio dress for my daughter. Grand total $50.

Just got a clearance catalog from Land’s End. Some great buys in there.

ugh…Thumper, I’m so jealous. I haven’t been to GW all week. Maybe they’ll have a special Christmas Eve sale on Saturday! Congrats to you on some great finds.

Anthropologie is running 50% off all sale items until 12/31. Pickings are pretty slim online, but I snagged some great deals in-store like a fancy lace slip for $6 (originally $148), leather ballet flats for $15 (originally $98), and a gorgeous hand-crocheted wool sweater for $20 (originally $258). Anthro at full price is ridiculous, of course, but the normal sale reduction is 40-50% off FP so an extra 50% works out to something reasonable.

They usually do new markdowns on Tuesday, so I would go in-store to check it out if you’re interested.

Big sales in our local Banana Republic store.

Bought a men’s no iron micro stripe dress shirt–regular price, $79.50. It was on sale for $16.97 plus an additional 40% off. Final price was $$10.18! This item was a final sale so it can’t be returned. For $10, I was willing to take the chance. :)

Bought another men’s no iron dress shirt–regular price, $79.50. On sale for $49.99 plus an additional 40% off. Final price was $29.99. This shirt can be returned for any reason.

I’m officially done shopping. I bought some very nice clothes for the boys at reasonable prices. The sales were great. I can think of only one item in which I paid full retail price and that was a specific toy for a little nephew.

Got a good deal (not a great deal) on 2010 Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay. $29.98/bottle. Prices typically range from $37-49/bottle. No 10% case discount at this price, but thats ok.

I had a misfortune of venturing into the shopping territories on Thursday -oh, my! There was a line (with no end in sight!) of people in folding chairs. These people were camping downtown overnight in hopes of getting their hands on a pair of the newest Air Jordans at the Nike store. Did I mention that it was below freezing?

Done with shopping!! My good buy of the day was a beautiful set of blue and beige table linens with faint paisley pattern - made in Russia. I also scored a hat made in Canada and a sweater made in Slovakia. Hubby’s New Year’s tie is handmade in the US, and his new robe came here from Turkey.

I did go to the furniture store last night - to pick up hubby’s Stressless. That was my super buy of the year - it was on sale, and with the donation to ACS, my final discount was 40%. I dragged the chair out of the car and hid it in the garage, covered with a tarp. The real challenge will be to sneak it into the house and place it under the tree. D says we have to tune the TV to a fashion show to make dad fall asleep and then wrestle the chair into the house :D

^Have fun with your chair adventure tonight! :)

^I bought this bag today in TJMaxx for $29.00. It’s a Christmas present to myself. It’s very light in weight and the lining is a light color so I’ll be able to actually see what’s in the bag.

I always find great bags at TJMaxx or Marshall’s. My last 2 Tignanello glove leather bags have been under 30 and 50.00 and sold for 100.00 or more on other sites. My last had 3 compartments and a magnetic closure and really soft…I love it and will never pay full price anywhere for bags.

I just got a gorgeous Harry Levine camel hair car coat length coat for $12. I’m not going out again…I’ll just keep spending money.

Have a great holiday everyone.

I get nearly all of my bags at TJMaxx (although years ago I bought two bags that I used forever at Marshalls).

Thumper and all other cc posters, have a wonderful holiday!

Happy holidays, everyone!

(The chair is on the deck, shrinkwrapped and covered with a blue tarp. Our neighbors probably think we are going to have one heck of a redneck Christmas!) :)

Happy holidays to all my fellow bargain hunters!

I confess I just had a BAD ( in terms of cost) deal of the day, but it was a necessity for a last minute plan DH and DS made to attend an NFL game in a few days in another city. They decided that travelling several hours to another city, wearing garb supporting the visiting team and trying to buy tickets from scalpers at the last minute was not a good idea.

So I hunted on many a sports ticket resalers website and we spoke to a friend who deals in these ticket resales, and while it turns out that I got a good deal for the tickets I got, it was still a lotta moolah. But, I hadn’t come up with a birthday gift for DH (whose birthday happens to be tomorrow) so, all is well with the world :)

Happy Holidays everyone!

This thread has been a lot of fun and I’m sure it’s saved many of us a few dollars. Every little bit helps.

This is my favorite thread on CC!

Happy holidays everyone!
