Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

deb thanks for the heads up on the amazon deal!

DD has been looking for a prom dress and has had her eye on two dresses that we could find for no less than $290. One she loved more than the other, the lesser loved one could be bought as a knock off from one of those overseas sites for about $170 (friends have had varying degrees of success with this). Neither of us feel that spending that much on a prom dress is worth it.

I have been searching Ebay a couple of times a week for the last month but to no avail. Well, the other night I saw the first choice dress close to her size listed for $79 pre-owned! Even if it needs slight alterations and a good cleaning we will be quite far ahead!

Last year we bought her dress from Craigslist for $120 (we now have it listed for resale and this new dress will also be resold). Normally I would have tried to talk the girl down but she seemed to be in need of the cash so I went with the asking price lol.

^Very nice!

Never thought about selling old prom/homecoming dresses on Craigslist/Ebay - great idea - don’t know what we’re ever going to do with them in the attic!

My daughter used her prom dresses for formals at college. No one there had ever seen them!

Went to Houlihan’s with a friend for dinner last night to celebrate her divorce. Bottles of wine were half price and we had a $10 off coupon for dinner. So dinner for the 2 of us with a nice bottle of wine cost us $15 each.

My D also used her senior prom dress for formals at college.

We eventually donated her dresses. Many communities have “closets” run by volunteers that outfit girls with donated prom dresses & shoes. Definitely a “good buy” for them! :)

Our local high school accepts donated prom dresses.

Today’s Living Social deal is $10 off a purchase at Overstock.com – pay $10 for a voucher worth $20 on Overstock. This is the second time they’ve run this deal. Wish I could buy more than one. I’ve had good luck with O’s rugs (though I only order items with lots of reviews, overwhelmingly positive).

Hollister is having a very good sale on shorts if you have a child that likes that store. Abercrombie is having the same sale (but lets face it, same items as Hollister with different logo and add $5-$10 per item lol). There is a pin code on the Hollister site too for a free roller ball perfume with any “Bettys” order.

DD was badly in need of shorts this year so I told her that I would buy her the ones she wanted at Hollister as long as she purges the clothes that no longer fit and she no longer wears to sell at our yard sale or trade in to Plato’s Closet (but I think we make more at the yard sales).

I got myself and my daughter blacki Lindsay Phillips Switchflops
a close out at a local store. The shoes were $10 a pair (normally $39.99) and the switch straps were $3 a set (normally $12). I got each of us four pairs of straps. A great deal
I’ll put DD’s on her bed
today is her birthday (she won’t get the goods until she returns home in December
I sent her a picture.

Bought three pretty used baskets for $2.50 altogether on ebay last week. Filled one with fruit for MIL’s birthday yesterday.

I’m finding things on ebay are getting more expensive than a year or so ago. I used to be able to find odd pieces of my china and other table accessories for good prices. Now it seems that the big resellers snap them up and put them back on for full price.

My H’s partner said men’s shirts were for sale at costco for 15.00 dollars, these are the same ones sold at Lands End for 50 or 60 dollars, just have a different label.

We have both the Costco Kirkland shirts and the Lands End. They are not the same. The Costco shirt is ok, but the Lands End is nicer fabric, and really wrinkle free. I buy them for DH when they are on clearance and have free shipping–usually about $25 or so a shirt.

Went to the healthy food grocery store today and they had rolled oats for $1 for TWO pounds! I eat a lot of oatmeal now (I can set it up the night before in my programmable rice cooker), so I’m very cognizant of oatmeal prices.

If you wear JJill they’re having a 20% off everything (including sale items) through tomorrow, in-store and 15% online. If you have a coupon and/or their credit card, they’ll stack the extra savings. Their online outlet has some great prices; mostly winter clothing, but I got great savings on summer shirts, and linen shorts and pants. I used a coupon ($20 off $80) from retailmenot.

An unintended good deal of the day! I needed a new pair of gray pants so went to Kohl’s. For some reason, I hadn’t gotten a flyer with the discount, but thought I would try my luck with the store’s scratch card. I only got a 15% discount, so decided just to stick with the pants and just a couple of other things to get over the $50 limit to get the $10 cash back. My surprise came when I got to the register and I didn’t qualify for the cash back because my total was only $39 - the pants had been marked down to $10!

Today’s TJMax update. I took a walk through our local TJMax today to see what was new. It appears they’re stocking the shelves full with a new shipment of towels. They were beautiful–well made, brand names, and very pretty spring and summer colors. They’re also starting to bring out new linens and lightweight quilt bed covers. The men’s dept. was full of Ralph Lauren Polo shirts.

I ended up purchasing a set of towels (bath towel, hand towel, and washcloth) in hot pink to add a splash of color to an otherwise boring bathroom.

Thanks for the update, NY. Towels and lightweight quilt/coverlets are both on my list. I’ll be curious to see whether our TJ Maxx has the same merchandise as yours. I never did see any Bagallinis (sp?) at ours here in the northwest.

Did you happen to see any floorlamp deals? We need to replace one
