Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

^^^ I’d rather have my two hours back than the $50.

me too but I didnt expect anything so was happy

Sorry…no headings to read when using the iPad app.

Got a lovely Brooks Brothers all-wool black cable knit turtleneck at Goodwill the other day, for $11.99. Happy happy.

Not a day specific deal but picking up on the Goodwill deal: My new favorite store is our local “Savers.” I have bought a bunch of you-would-never-know-these-are-used sweaters for myself and DD. Giant selection in every size, every high end store represented, lots of designer stuff, and prices $3.99 or $5.99 or highest is $7.99. I’m still trying to figure out the pricing but as I sit here in my “new” $7.99 Coldwater Creek sweater, I am a very happy camper. Same stuff in a consignment shop would be at least 50% more, and new for real would be $$$.

This store also has an ever-changing and awesome selection of housewares too. Lots of decorative stuff, holiday stuff, dishes, serving pieces, etc. This place is dangerous!

MJS - never heard of Savers before. Googled Savers Store and boom - lots of 'em all over the place and three w/in my normal shopping zone. Yikes! Thank you =).

In some areas Savers is Value Village. I find them to be more expensive than Goodwill, but the one closest to me house used to be a Toys R Us store so it’s HUGE, and has a good selection.

Savers donates to local charities. Where I am, it’s the Boys and Girls clubs. Their stores are organized sort of like Marshalls…but with used things. I got a gorgeous pair of blue Armani slacks there for $6.

Needed a new chair for clients to sit in in my office testing area. Time to move up to
“pleather” so can be more easily cleaned. Needed to be comfy, padded, with arms, no wheels. Found one for $89.99 at one of the office supply stores. $10 off coupon on line, and I had some “rewards members” credits for orders we’d placed. Free shipping too. Final price $14.34 plus tax (taxed on the price before the credits, but thats ok). The BEST part-- ordered it Weds, it arrived Thurs morning ALL ASSEMBLED!! Just unwrapped the plastic and the client sat in it in the afternoon!

Off to the Comcast place to trade in our digital box for a HD/DVR box. Not sure if this is good or bad, but it happens to be right by the Value Village store!! I might have to stop in!!

Found a cute outdoor Halloween doormat at Kohls today for $1.71 – and I had 30% off!

DH’s work shoes wore out really quick, just bought them 5 months ago (?). Went to shoebuy and found him a new pair of Drew Rockford diabetic work boots. Price $244.95 less BDAY 25% off coupon of $61.24 = $183.71 plus free shipping! AND 16% from ebates. woo hoo.

now I can only hope they fit and he likes them. I hate to say it, but my hubby is pickier then most women I know on how a shoe fits. (Which is why I always buy his shoes from shoebuy- free return shipping too!! )

Hotel was fine–the room was very small, but worked for two people. It’s The Sanctuary Hotel located on 47th St. between 6th and 7th Ave. Rooms were clean, very modern decor (looks like it was recently updated), nice linens, etc. Price was $235 night, which is a good price for midtown Manhattan. It’s not the kind of room in which you want to spend time, but if you’re out and about all day and just sleeping in the room and want a break on price, it works. Also, a continental breakfast is included in the cost of the room–there’s a dining area in one part of the lobby where you can get coffee, tea, juice, bagels, rolls, muffins, dry cereal, fruit, toast, etc. You just help yourself. Parking is at a parking garage across the street–staying at the hotel gives you a $10 discount on the $40 per day rate.

Not a terrific deal, but I was happy. My husband has a pair of Merrell hiking boots that needed new laces. He really wanted the original lace and no local store carried them. Merrell has them on their site for $4, but shipping was a flat $5, no matter what you bought. I gave them a call and said I was interested in the laces, but it seems silly to pay shipping that was more than the item. The CS rep offered the waive the shipping fee if I wanted to go ahead and order, which I did. :)

Marc Antony slim cut dress shirt (retail $56) for $5. LLBean fleece vest $6. Lands End cotton sweater $1. And a beautiful pottery serving tray $1 at the charity thrift store where I volunteer.

Goodjob, snowball! It never hurts to ask!

Yes, I have SOMETIMES had luck getting a reduction or waiver of high shipping fees to HI. It is definitely worth at least inquiring.

Today, H & I went out to a nice lunch and it was pretty reasonable but had enough leftovers to make it a dinner for both of us as well, making it doubly reasonable!

O.K., not really a good buy, but tonight H and I went to movie (using discount tickets from Costco), then went to dinner with a Groupon ($20 for $40 certificate, bought with ebates)–yes, January frugal-ness is upon us. But the real bonus was walking to theater and finding $110 cash on the ground!
Will have to make a donation in honor of the good Karma Gods!

Wow, gosmom. Somebody lost some serious cash!

Usually when I find money on the ground I give it to charity. But the most I ever found was a $10 bill. Not sure what I would do with $110.

One Christmas season, when the Salvation Army guys were ringing their bells, I found a $20 bill on the sidewalk. I walked ten steps and popped it in the bucket.

I still feel good about that.
