Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

On that Jetblue offer…I wonder how hard (or easy) it will be to actually BOOK tickets. If I were retired…I’d do it…

I was at Costco today. They had these really cute pajama sets but they were $39.99! That is way to expensive! I don’t think many of their clothes are bargains at all. I did have a bargain lunch of a slice of everything pizza and a soda for less than $3 including a refill on the soda to go.

I’ve been buying VHS tapes for $1 at the thrift shops and garage sales this year and have quite a collection now, particularly of old movies. We still have a VCR, so I can enjoy watching them at my leisure. Also got a collection of several seasons of Seinfeld and Sex in the City and Lafemme Nikita. I am donating some of them to my son’s school–they still use VCRs, and I got some great educational tapes. Also have a number of classic plays and musicals. I picked up a 13" TV with a vcr built into it that I can just put whereever I please in the house, and watch my tapes. My kind of machine in that it is so easy to use. You have to be an engineer to use the TV, DVD and other junk on our family TV.

Bought shorts for my son at ExpressMen. Original price…$48.00. My price…$3.17. They were on clearance, additional 40% off today, AND, I had a $15 coupon that I got in the mail for my birthday. Even my teenage son was impressed with the bargain!!

I bought an HP netbook on the ebay deal of the day for $199. I have been wanting a netbook. It only weighs 2.3 pounds and the keyboard is supposed to be 92% of the size of a regular keyboard. It is refurbished but has a 90 day guarantee. I hope it turns out to be a good buy. I am kind of excited about it. :o

Staples - ream of copy paper for $4.99 with a on-line rebate of $3.99 - final cost $1.00!

I’m on a roll. $59.99 queen-sized blanket marked down to $29.99 and then 40% off or $17.99 plus $49.99 sandals marked down to $29.99 and then 40% off or $17.99, so that’s $36, plus I had a JC Penneys coupon for $10 off your $25 purchase, so $26 dollars for a nice blanket (which we really needed) + some really great leather sandals with cork wedge heels (I am not sure I needed them but I definitely wanted them…)

I don’t remember if I put this on or not…two Ralph Lauren long sleeved dress shirts for DH…on the mega sale rack at Kohls for $8.20 each (regular $42). AH…but I had a 15% off coupon…so they were $7 each…not bad.

Reed diffusor scent thingy to use as a prize at a Bridal Shower I am hosting, orginally $29 $5.xx shipped to my door from Kohl’s. I’m really starting to love that store!

Through some manuvering, I was able to get two free tickets HNL to SFO on the dates & times of my choice, non-stop flights. I’m very happy! I had to use the AA points for one ticket & credit card points for the other ticket, but free still feels good!

Also got a car for 12 days @ about $381+.

Also got 3 free phones from Verizon, enV3, normally $50-80. We do need to pay the activation fees but that’s all. May also need to pay an extra fee to switch the phone number.

Got a 16 piece set of Corelle for DD’s new apartment for $18 @ Target. Then got 10% off because she works there. I’d have bought 2 if they had them!

Man, I’m in the mood for a good buy!!!

I got a Hertz rental car for $141 including tax, for a week, unlimited miles, to drive D to school! $20 bucks a day, insane! (midsize car btw)

edit: I did this through AAA

Thanks for the tip on Corelle Ware at Target. If the roommates don’t show up with dishes on Saturday, that’s where I’m headed.

Digital picture frame at BB and B. Regular price $99.99. On sale for $79.99…minus the 20% coupon made it about $67.00…but wait…there is a THIRTY dollar rebate…not bad.

H got the MN StormStopper II Jacket from Duluth Trading for $50 - very nice jacket.

I’ve found Hertz through AAA has had the best prices recently. The best part is they will allow a second driver at no charge as long as they are a AAA member and meet the standard rental requirements (no 16 year olds).

Thanks for all the bargain updates everyone. Keep them coming! And a special thanks to Northeast Mom on the priceline thing. Just got a room on priceline for our daughter’s movein and parent orientation at $55 a night! Cheapest room I have ever had and so needed as we send off our girl to college in this economy!

novicemom, you’re welcome! Best of luck to your D!

We just got back from looking at some schools and visiting family. At the last minute we needed a hotel room that we had not booked in advance, and we were on a budget. I was still able to get a room on Priceline a day or two before we needed the room ($48 for a very nice hotel in a fairly rural area). We felt fortunate to be able to get a room at that price on such short notice. In my experience it is easier to get a hotel room through their bidding if one is looking in or near a city, so I feel that we were very lucky.

I live to priceline!
A favorite college-related Priceline story:
I was on my way to pick up DD at the airport (about 75 miles from home) for Thanksgiving. Less than half way there it started to snow heavily, and I was driving into the storm. Within 15 minutes the traffic had slowed to a crawl. Figuring that I would be very late to get her and not wanting to drive at night in the storm, I got DH on the phone and walked him through priceline. I got a room at the Hampton Inn next to the airport for $50. DD’s flight was rerouted/delayed (a really long story) but I got to the hotel about 4 hours after I left home. While waiting to check in, I could hear the clerk telling people on the phone that there were no rooms available and no, not at any price. Go Priceline and thanks DH!

I am using the refurbished HP netbook. It works great, and it is easy to type on. Plus it is so darn cute. It came from ecost.com; I think this link shows the one I have. Now that it is not the deal of the day shipping costs about $14. Still a bargain.

No more lugging my work laptop on vacations just so I can check email or the web once in a while. And it is fun just to have around the house. $199! I think my daughter’s fancy HP graphing calculator cost that much just a few years ago! I am still kind of excited about this - can you tell?
