purrli, there's this kid, maybe 10 years old, who takes piano lessons from this lady I go to...during my lesson, I saw him doing his math homework...he was doing effing limits and solving derivatives...then I found out it wasn't homework - he was just doing them for "practice," giving himself problems to do.

AHHH!! I bet the kid's Harvard-bound. The record for the youngest person to get an 800 on the math SAT was also a 10 year old. Asian. >:(

my sister took algebraII and trig together in 9th grade, and didn't take pre calc. so she took calculus AB in 10th grade and is taking calculus bc right now in her junior year. but i guess you can't go back to 9th grade now...heh

7th - prealgebra
8th- algebra I
9th - geometry
10th - i got into a private HS and i placed into BC Calc
11th - Linear Algebra and Multivar
12th - I dunno. I might do some independent work, such as set theory, diff. eq., etc, take some random electives, or maybe drop math in pursuit of more science.

Well, I was in my old HS's math team and we did some advanced stuff. But the school system made all the members of each class take a certain level of math (although there were honors courses). When I got in my new HS, they had me take a placement test. I scored well, and they placed me in BC Calc. That's one of the advantages of going to a private HS: you can go at your own pace.

uh... 6/math 1adv 7/algebra i hon 8/algebra i hon(again, yeah, i know shut up) 9/geometry hon & algebra ii hon 10/pre-calculus 11(now)/ap calc ab 12(next year)/ap calc bc

6th: a vague mention of the variable x at the end of the year
7th&8th: algebra, maybe some geometry
9th&10th: a blur of algebra, geometry, more algebra, trigonometry. aka math a and math b in NY.
11th: pre-calc
12th: ap calc ab & ap statistics

7th integrated math
8th integrated math
9th integrated math
10th Algebra 2 + some geometry (at least the equivalent of it)
11th AP calc BC
12th multi,linear algebra

6th - geometry
7th - alg. II
8th - trig
9th - calc BC
10th - linear algebra, multi
12th - no formal math :( (but fun with model theory!)

it seems that some schools offer a choice between calc AB and calc BC (that's how my high school works) and others only teach them as a sequence. having them only in sequence seems like it could be pretty frustrating..

Don't really get the point of this thread, but I'll post. We have a horrible high school math problem that's supposed to be integrated instead of one year of alegbra, geometry, etc. Really though the integrated program screws all the students and makes it so there's a bunch of stuff to learn in pre-calc.

7: Alegbra
8: Integrated Math 1
9: Integrated Math 2
Summer: Integrated Math 3
10: Precalculus
11: Calculus, Discrete Math (I'm taking 2 math classes next qtr:))
12: Multivariable

9th grade: Algebra II Honors
10th grade: Precalculus Honors

I'm still in 10th grade, but so long as I pass Precalc this year, I'll be taking AP Calculus BC in 11th grade. I go to a private school, and we had to take placement tests to figure out what level math class would suit us, and I placed out of Algebra I and Geometry, yay.
