Your matho.

9: remedial algebra
10: remedial algebra
11: geometry
12: algebra

6th: Advanced Math 6 (kicked back to regular after not doing homework)
7th: Advanced Math 7 (kicked back to regular after not doing homework)
8th: Pre-Algebra (originally placed in Algebra I; chose to move back)
9th: Algebra I Honors
10th: Algebra II
11th (first time): Geometry
11th (second time): Algebraic Review (just finished Algebra I; now starting Algebra II/Trig)

Mine back in the 60's and 70's was

7th "enriched" prealgebra

8th algebra I

9th the SAME algebra I (I moved to a new state)

10th geometry

11th algebra II (self-studied to speed it up)

12th pathetically bad computer class

And no more math after that, but in recent years I have been reading a lot about math because I am my homeschool group's math coach.

I like my sons' curriculum much better:

5th prealgebra & algebra I ( [EPGY )

6th algebra I & algebra II ( local</a> accelerated program](<a href="http://epgy.stanford.edu/courses/math/%5DEPGY%5B/url">http://epgy.stanford.edu/courses/math/) )

7th geometry & precalculus ( " " " )

8th honors calculus I ( " " " )

9th grade plans for my oldest son are still being determined; he might go out of state for boarding school, and we are looking at lots of different local possibilities too. My second son is much less into math, but so far on track to follow much the same curriculum at the same ages. My oldest son also participates in lots of math competitions (we have a local competition today and are awaiting AMC 8 results) and does online math classes for supplementation. We use ALEKS to ensure gap-coverage in "high school" subjects, and the Art of Problem Solving online classes to avoid getting into the " calculus trap " of staying stuck in only the standard American classroom curriculum. We've recently had the chance to meet a boy from Russia here in the States as an international high school student, and he is very familiar with the kind of math background that is possible for someone who looks at precalculus topics more thoroughly before moving into calculus.

By the way, the forums on the Art of Problem Solving Web site, which deal mostly with math, include threads just like this one from time to time, because students like to figure out what a "typical" math sequence is.
