To show that the mid tier UCs always get shafted (as a result of being overshadowned by the top 2 or 3) in these topics

yeah what the heck! where's UC SAN DIEGO?!
or UCI, which recently became a top 10 public according to US News?

6 of the 9 undergrad UC's rank among the overall top 50 in US News, and 8 of the 9 (merced's too new) rank better than half the state flagships in the USA.

this is one of the few times i agree with US News - too many people here are forgetting about the mid-tier UC's!

or maybe i just have a california bias ;)

Wisconsin's "terrific" Undergrad business program doenst come close to UCB, UCLA, UNC, UVA, and Ross. Its not even as good as Texas, Ohio State, or Indiana for that matter. This is exactly what I am talking about, Wisconsin is overrated on these lists.

Business is one of about 150 ug majors at UW and it is easily competitive with Indiana OSU and UNC. UCLA does not even have ug business you uninformed person.
Outside of that you have terrific science majors in all areas, great language programs--the most of any state school, an excellent education school, top ranked comm arts school, top ag programs, great history, poli sci and social sciences, great comp sci, and some rare majors like atmospheric science and nuclear engineering that are top ranked. The faculty wins more major awards than most public and private schools and you have one of the top 3 research programs in the US.
Then there is a great college town, great social scene, beautiful lakefront campus and a general zest for all things that makes UW one of a kind.

^haha nice...
I won't feel bad after all if I fail at getting in my reach schools and end up going to wisconsin.

haha... well UW is my #1 school of choice! wooop.. lol, well i suppose it's a big deal to me seeings as though i live in a town of under 100 and my class has 30 people, madison is practically like a state of its own to me.. haha, how pathetic.. i'm very excited though! yay wisconsin!

oops.. not 100.. we almost have 1000 people!

just my opinion...

due to the hope scholarship and many improvement efforts and increases in selectivity, UGA is quickly joining public u's like UNC, UVA, etc. as of now it's amongst the top 15 or 20 publics and in about 10 years it will in the top 10

that's pretty interesting. out in the west coast, some theorize that UCSB is also planning to move itself up in the rankings.

could someone rank the publics based on what you think they'll look like IN TEN YEARS FROM NOW?

UW has a great social scene no doubt, but the caliber of the students isn't close to those other ones listed (UNC, UCLA, UM, UCB, UVA). Also, How is Wisconsin even CLOSE to UNC in terms of UG business, its after places like Indiana and OSU! UW MBA is something like 35!

10 years from now: just a guess

Berkeley
UCLA
UVA
UNC
Michigan
William and Mary
UC - San Diego
UT - austin
UGA
Florida
UCSB
Georgia Tech
Illinois
Wisconsin
Pitt
Maryland
Ohio State
Penn St

i predict the UC's are going to get more top-heavy, as in people who don't get in to the top 4 will increasingly choose private and OOS colleges

Florida and Texas and UGA are gaining reputation, as is Pitt, primarily due to its premed program

Wisconsin has only been going UP in the past few years. That's silly.

As for slipper, while I agree that the undergraduate student numbers aren't equal to say UCB or UVA, Michigan and Wisconsin have nearly identical student bodies, with their ACT range of 26-30, acceptance rates ranging from upper 50s to lower 60s, getting many of the top students from their home state, chicago, and in WI's case Minnesota. That's silly, too. Also, Wisconsin is larger than UNC and UVA, and on sheer numbers it has to accept more students. It is a public school which is supposed to educate the people of the state, not be an elitist private institution. I'm not sure how many students are in each class at UNC, but Wisconsin on sheer numbers can match them, it just has to accept a larger student body. Also, anyone who values colleges on selectivity alone is missing some of the most important aspects of a school. Cost, Professor reputations (Wisconsin ranks higher than many elite privates according to the US News), atmosphere, size, etc all must be a factor.

Also, slippery, Wisconsin UG Business is not directly correlated to their graduate programs. This is an invalid analogy. Simply look at the US News undergraduate business school rankings. But if you'd like to see how UW Business school graduates do overall, well, check out the story that places Wisconsin and Harvard as the two top schools in educating S&P 500 CEO's

I'm not sure what your personal vandetta against UW is.

No personal vandetta against UW, its overranked that's all. I am not saying USNEWS is the end all, but all these other publics have always been ranked well ahead of it (UM, UCLA, UNC, UCB). I think people over-rank schools they attend and sometimes a little objectivity is needed. I defend objectivity. Putting the #12UG B-school in the same category as the #5 one isn't objective. Also, it doesn't matter what size the school is, its the quality of the people there and UW students are weaker than the schools people place it with. Selectivity matters.

You are non responsive. See above.

However, you are entitled to your opinion.

Top tier: Berkeley, Michigan, Wisconsin, UCLA, UC San Diego, Minnesota, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Evergreen State

Minnesota over Illinois or William and Mary?

Forgot those two, sorry.
