What kind of things are you putting/did you put in "Your Space"?

I did a collage sort of thing which came out pretty nice but the admission rep at an information sessions at the school cautioned against collages causes theyre overdone and unless theyre good, they dont interest them as much as something more unique

I sent in a personal essay I had written in the eleventh grade (I obviously did some reworking because it wasn't perfect or anything). It was REALLY personal though - a "linguistic moment" pertaining to me and my ex-gf... but it was very well-written and I was proud of it. I hope that Vassar thought so too. If not, I don't think submitting a Your Space will work against you. It might just not help.

I sent in a chatper of my starting novel. But, I have an inkling that sending an excerpt is not the most original idea in ratio.

God, where has my life gone, i dont have a novel or anythign.....ive been playing a lot of halo 2, its the only thing that kills my time, that or papers for school....argghh

i wrote an essay about my coming out of the closet in a country like india where homosexuality is punishable by law

Man that takes a lot of guts. When I "came out" it was just by not denying the rumors and then everyone was like "Oh...okay....I thought so.....cool." And that was that. What exactly are the punishments? How did you avoid being punished?

well theres a law left over from our colonial heritage which states "sexual intercourse between man woman or beast which is against the order of nature is punishable upto ten years of imprisonment and or punitive fines"
the "order of nature" is defined as any intercourse which is not child bearing this includes oral or anal sex of both heterosexual and homosexual nature its basically used by police officers to blackmail/persecute gays and or rape them
fortunately i have never faced any of this but surviving in this society of prejudice is more than enough

I sent in a piano solo recording that I made of the Chopin Scherzo in Bb-minor (are there any classical music buffs out there that know this piece?). You guys think this was okay to send in on behalf of the "Your space" section?

BMK- did you talk to the music department people? a note from them attesting to your talent could have been good but a musical piece seems like a nice idea

actually, as i have mentioned before, i actually had an interview with the music Chair a month ago. with my musical cd i will be sending in a student resume also. So hopefully, my talent will speak for itself through my playing rather than me simply writing about it. I was just concerned that the "Your Space" had to be a writing thing, and that sending in music would not be considered a part of your space. But it is too late to change anything anyway, so whatever happens happens!

I have a question and guess that the internet is probably the best place to ask it. Why are you gay? not in a disrespectful manner or anything, but was this a choice, did it happen gradually, what why and what do you get out of sleeping with a man?

I'm not gay and I certainly don't want to answer for all gay people but I'm fairly certain that gay people are gay like straight people are straight--it isn't a choice, it's just how we are.

This thread going in the wrong direction? lol...funny though that of the few active posters and interested people in the school two are gay. celebrate diversity on campuses across the country ?!?!

yea....about the your space....

Yes, about Your Space. Would it be completely not following the directions if I sent a tape instead? You see, I do this thing where I can tell the story of any musical, using the music in about five minutes. I used to make musicals into bedtime stories for the kids I babysat. When my friends are auditioning for musicals, I do it to brief them for thier auditions. My friends joke that I should make taped musicals cliff notes. So I was thinking about doing one of the Wizard of Oz - the first play I ever saw (I want to major in drama, by the way) - and kind of relate to my life as I go. Am I totally losing it? Maybe I've just been working on college apps for too long. Is this even allowed?

Sounds interesting...youd have to include something to explain it and how it relates to you because Im sure theyd be confused if they put the tape/cd in and there you are summarizing the Wizard of Oz. In any case, I'm sure that would be original. There can't be that many people that do that.

Since i'm a musician, i'm sending in 2 additional music pieces. One is a 1min-ish ambient song w/a pretty cool guitar solo and some weird noises and such, and the other is a 2m 30s version of herbie han****'s chameleon, but with just guitar.

I think this shows a bit of my creative side, as opposed to the more technical stuff I sent in as the music supplement.

I'm also sending in a few newspaper clippings from the houston chronicle of my hockey team. We went 18-0 in the houston high school league and won the city championship, and i'm noted for a goal and a few assists. I dunno if this is a good idea or not, but we're the first team to ever go 18-0, so i figure it might work in addition the the music.

To Jaman: I'm not gay but a bunch of my friends are. What they would say is that being gay was not a choice. If it were a choice, they would have chosen to be straight. They can't change who they are attracted to. (Most scientists believe that homosexuality is established at birth and is linked to certain genes/exposure to certain birth hormones... also, contrary to popular belief, homosexuality has been found in many species of animals.)

Okay! Back to the Your Space topic, please!

lol, this and the "Gays at Vassar" thread are getting mixed up.
