And for every rule there is an exception. I've seen posts on this board of kids who got in with ACT's in the 20's. As has been well said above, if you can demonstrate your value as a potential student at ND, you'll have the same chance as everyone else. It just happens that you are competing against some of the best and brightest from across America. If you stand out from the crowd, you'll have a better chance.

Have faith.

I pray to God every night, asking Him to let me in at Notre Dame.

I must admit that I'm scared to death everyday.

Grades, essays, tests, etc.

ManUtd....
Im with you....
I try to tell myself that whatever happens... happens
and that everything happens for a reason

Have I been dreaming about attending ND since I was five?.... yes
Will I jump around and go crazy and be ecstatic and well just go crazy if i get in? ... YEs
Will my dreams be shattered... and will tears fall if I am not accepted?.... most likely

But the thing to remembers is if the people at Nd do not find it suitable for us to attend ND at that present moment... they are probably right....

That doesnt mean that we cant prove ourselves in teh first year of college and then go to ND....

We got it.... no worries

I didn't bring it up to tear you down. I know a lot of people who have gotten into ND, in fact everyone in all of my classes...but anyways, it can and does happen. You have to be very good, but if you are in the range you have a shot.

Also, I disagree with your comment on if ND admissions finds you not suitable to attend. There are many many many people who would do well here that get rejected. The problem is ND just simply doesn't have enough space! It doesn't mean you aren't good enough, and you should never measure yourself on if you got in or didn't get in to ND as it is a crapshoot and those things can change :).

I hope that helps some.

Just out of curiosity... How many of you posting in this string are seniors in high school right now, and how many junior or younger? Also, how many of you who are seniors already have your apps in to admissions for EA?

I'm a senior who's applying for RD.

Junior..

"I didn't bring it up to tear you down. I know a lot of people who have gotten into ND, in fact everyone in all of my classes...but anyways"

Irish made a funny

anyways.... I know that many people would do well at ND even though they are rejected...
But.... I was just trying to say that even if rejected.... then you shoulding think that you got screwed.. and then have instant negativity to ND... thats all i was sayn....

i am a senior with EA app in (which will deff get differed)... if i had like 2 extra points on my act id be a lock i hate stupid standardized testing... i really like my essay tho :) it's different... and my rec is amazing... we'll see... later

ScSquidSnaps,
I don't read this message board very often anymore, but thought I'd respond to your post in that my daughter's situation may help provide the perspective of a non-legacy accepted student.

My daughter is a soph. She was admitted from the waitlist - for the class that started Fall of 2005. No legacy.

Stats: ACT 32, Top 4+% in her class. Unweighted GPA 3.96 (no weighting at her high school). She was from a very highly regarded, large public high school. I don't think there has been a student from her high school at Notre Dame for several years, but several students, each year, do go to top 20 colleges, universities - including some Ivies. There is a Catholic school in town and they usually send one or two students to ND each year.

She took several AP classes - but not all of them offered. She had leadership positions such as President of Sr. Class, and captain of Speech Team, and leader in Marching Band. Absolutely no sports.

She did have State and National level awards/recognition in her area of interest - Speech and Theatre.

She was probably a rather unique applicant in that she had very little knowledge of and little contact with ND prior to sending in her application. She did the regular admission tour in Spring junior year - but no other contact with ND prior to sending in application.

In March of her Senior year, she began doing much more comparative research (in terms of the educational programs in the area of her intended major) at the colleges in which she applied. In mid-March she decided she needed to visit ND to get additional information. Until she made that visit - a different school was her first preference. She contacted the head of the department of her intended major and visited the dept - toured the facilities, spoke to a few faculty and got much more information about their educational program than she could get from reading info on their webpage. She also visited the admission rep from our area.

I have no idea, for sure, but I imagine this personal contact along with her obvious interest in trying to find the right educational program for her, helped put her in the accepted category. I also don't know if she would have been accepted regular admission (instead of from waitlist) if she would have made these personal contacts either in the Fall or early in the calender year. (Her visit was actually a week before the acceptance letters were sent out. Therefore I would imagine most decisions were already made.)

After her visit - ND was her first choice. Therefore when she got the "waitlist letter" she made immediate contacts with her admission rep and with the faculty she met to solicit any advise. She repeatedly sent info to the admission rep as she received awards/recognitions. I think she was among the first group to get admitted from the waitlist.

I realize that the waitlist situation didn't apply this past year because they didn't need to rely on the waitlist to fill their class.

As said on this discussion board many times - I am a firm believer in the philosophy that all things happen for a reason and students will get into the right school for them. When she started her college search - ND was not the place I thought she would end up going. I think my daughter got in because first - she worked hard - but mostly because she was the right person at the right place at the right time - and it was just supposed to be.....

Good luck

Well-stated ndparent! Try to stay positive and believe this!! I would not have believed that one year ago, that son would be a freshman at Notre Dame this year. Things do happen for a reason, and in our family, we began to see a LOT of little signs that pointed him to Notre Dame. The signs thing almost became a little spooky, albeit comical. He is where he is supposed to be. And, I might add, that looking at the majority of his small graduating class (about 55), everyone just about ended up at the right place. Things happen for a reason!!

Thanks for the reminders ND parents. As an ND hopful parent it's hard to watch to see if your kids dreams come true. My daughter made sure to make personal contact I hope it makes a difference. You guys help this process and I appreciate it

I know most of this thread's readers are concerned high school juniors and seniors. Know that you have my empathy. The college process is by no means ideal. People don't always get what they deserve. But I think ND runs an incredible institution and that its admissions departments is one of the best. They will usually reply to emails within one to two days. They are upfront about their admissions policies. They do not have any OVERBLOWN, politically correct quota system. Legacies still need the academic prowess to gain admittance. I know an applicant from last year whose father was on the football team...with a strong application...but got denied.

Just keep the faith and know that it will work out if it should - even if that has to mean transferring in.

Current freshman...

1440 (low, i know!)
No legacy
4.0 / 94 / 100
Big ND Feeder (11 for class of 2010)
Editor-in-chief, newspaper
Marching Band
NHS, sNHS
Homeroom Leader
Community service - tutoring, etc.

I think my essay was the deciding factor. If you feel like you are behind the curve, make sure that essay is top notch. There is hope for the sub-1500 scorers, no doubt - that included me!

Come on. How can you say that 1440 is low?

That's definitely above average.

I'm at 1300 right now. I'm hoping my October score raised it a bit.

I'm basically going to gamble on ACT.

4.0 is way large...... 1440 is not low.. dont make us others feel worst... ive been doing some kaplan act stuff... and i like it a lot better.... good luck manutd
