You're Accepted-Now What?

I've been accepted to School of Communication at Northwestern for Early Decision. My grades were really good last year, but they have been slipping this year, ever since I found out about my decision. Finals are just around the corner and then first semester will be over.

I read on here that when someone called, someone at NU said that we don't need to send in our mid-year reports, but only our final reports? Oh, and also to call Northwestern and explain if you get C's..?

I just am feeling really, really lucky and fortunate that I got in to such a great, prestigious school, and am kind of scared that all of this could be taken away! In what cases (not extreme like, getting suspended or getting in trouble at school or going to jail) would NU rescind their acceptance from you?? Getting a C?

Sorry this may totally be random, but I think we should all know!

One C probably won't hurt you. A few C's might. Just aim for straight B's at least and you should be fine. There is no exact cutoff set to rescind admissions, but if you're smart enough to be accepted you should be able to not get any C's at least for a semester in high school.

i used to get all A's when i got accepted last year but now my first semester after i got accepted [first semester senior year] is all B's!! what should i do? my counselor says i might have to send a letter of explanation and that it is possible that they MIGHT rescind my acceptance.... or most likely get a warning. what should i do? and in the past, colleges that are high ranking like northwestern, what do they do if an accepted student's grades dropped so dramatically? please let me know...

It's highly unlikely that NU would rescind your acceptance for merely getting Bs...but I could be wrong.

I think a drop from As to Bs isn't necessarily all that "dramatic." You're probably okay, but definitely check to make sure. And try to bring the grades up if you can.

I'd call admissions. They know that most likely everyone's grades will drop a bit, I wouldn't worry too much. Just enjoy the rest of senior year and if your grade drops below a B call admissions and talk to them.

I'm sure C's are where you start worrying. I wouldn't lose sleep over a few B's but call if that'll make you feel better.

Whoa.
What if you are getting a C?
What’s the procedure?
Do you call somebody?
Sorry.
I’m not freaking out.
Do you know anybody who’s actually been rescinded for getting one C?

I’d like to second that last post. I had a C on my mid-year report, and I’ll probably finish with a C in that subject, but one or two subjects i had As in will probably drop to Bs. Thoughts?

No, i’m pretty sure you’ll be fine if its just a C but i’m just saying thats when id start worrying.

I think if its not a drastic change from your first semester’s grades, I wouldnt worry about it but if multiple C’s and or D’s start showing up, I suggest sending an email explaining the downturn in grades.

Northwestern says they might rescind “if your academic performance falters seriously” but who knows what that means.

EDIT: As for cases of rescinding, I’ve never heard of anyone being from Northwestern EVER but I’ve heard of Northwestern sending out warning letters.

Word. Pull it together now, because it’s only going to get harder from here. Use this as an opportunity to prove to yourself that you can do it.
