What is supposed to go there? like is it okay to get creative and draw a picture or make a collage, or should it be an essay. could it be just one word in the center of the paper, or does it need to be organized? help!

I have the same problem as GrenadeJumper. Could sb shed some light.

It is optional first of all. Many applicants get in without doing it at all. It can be anything you want it to be. Pictures, writing, art, a collage, anything that you think of that you want to share that does not show up elsewhere in the application. Good luck.

Just as an example, I sent in a video that my friends and I made junior year for our history final about Jackson. I thought it was funny. I have no idea if they watched it, but I got in, and i'm here, and I'm happy.

For what it's worth, I asked my d what she did with the myspace page, and she said she left it blank (but she submitted other materials relating to her interests). She was accepted ED1.

I was accepted regular decision and left it blank; so it's CERTAINLY possible to get in without filling the page out. The idea is that it allows you to show off an ability that you might otherwise not have been able to show in your application... artistic, cinematic, academic, etc.. It's entirely optional and plenty of people don't fill it out and get in.

i think i'm submitting a portfolio of photographs i've taken, since I have an interest in photography.

It can be anything you want. A friend at Vassar once told me she had a friend who put a picture of a sleeping cat in her Yourspace section and added the caption "I wish I was a cat so I could sleep all day."

So yeah. Literally anything. A word in the middle of the space sounds fine. So does an essay. Or a collage. Or photography.

A N Y T H I N G

I remember finding that stressful. You always sort of feel like its a rorshak test and you don't know what the ink blot looks like . . . its free association, but its "PLEASE ADMIT ME!!" free association . . . so in that sense its not that free. But the nice part is it lets you get in some of the content of your personality . . . it doesn't have to be so meticulously considered as the rest of the app.
