Hi all, I’m a high school junior and have been accepted to both YSPA (the Yale Summer Program of Astrophysics) and SSTP Iowa. Which one do you guys think is a better option? Thanks so much.
Both are good, depends on the topics that interests you. YSPA may give you a better chance in college application to Yale.
I’m a YSPA alumn! I don’t know much about Iowa, but I can answer Yale Astro questions if you have them
Hey @HarvardHater39 ! Do you have any social media where we can chat?
Is it true that half of the YSPA students would be admitted to Yale?
Hey, @HarvardHater39 Is it true that half of the YSPA students would be admitted to Yale?
Hey @TWtwtw ! When I was there, the figure that floated around was that about 40% of all YSPA alum have matriculated to Yale. From my YSPA class so far, about 7 heard back from Single Choice Early Action and will probably be attending in the Fall. A few to Harvard and MIT as well. I think it’s easy to believe that YSPA will “get you into Yale” and while it does give you great perspective on the school and looks great on the application, it’s hard to ignore that the a lot of the kids going to YSPA in the first place are great candidates for tons of top colleges anyway. It’s definitely not the only way to get into Yale and it’s also not a guaranteed admission. One of the best things about YSPA is that the people running admissions take risks. They’re creating a class that they want to spend the summer with, if that summer sounds like something you want to experience (because it is AWESOME) then DO IT!! But I can’t recommend applying to YSPA just to get to Yale.
