I had a year of college abroad in a major different than what I intend after transfer. I did not have a college diploma. I am 100% sure that my credits wouldn't transfer to a UC (they count units differently and those were like specialized courses)

So..if I tell on my app that I attended college before attending a UC, would it affect my admission?

My last sentence is wrong. It should be: "So…if I tell on my app that I attended a college abroad before going to a CC (no units transferred…and a complete waste of a year), would it affect my admission…negatively?

iZychr, I would say you should divulge all the information you can. It doesn’t matter if the units transfer or not, at least that is what all counselors have told me. I went to a CSU for one year, before going to a CCC and even though none of the CSU units are transferrable I still had to out them on my UC app.

Yes, I am finishing my IGETC this semester. My application is being processed now and should be successful (At least I’m hoping ha). On the UC app there is a place to put every school and every course you ever attended and ever received. Once the UCs inform me on whether or not I am admitted, I will send both my CSU and CCC transcripts to the one i choose to attend

I saw the app yesterday, and the space to put every course one attended was too limited. I took like more than 8 class per semester (yes, we had no life whatsoever)

So you mean attending another institution (other than a CCC), then attending a CC (basically starting from zero since no units transferred) is okay for ALL UCs?

Oh…good to know I’m still eligible to transfer…Imma ask a counsellor about this thang.

hey izychr I’m in the same spot as you. Went to a school in the Middle East (and I’m a ME studies major - couldnt hurt last year and now I’m trying to finish out the IGETC and go to a UC next fall.

Did your cc evaluate your credits as being equivalent to IGETC courses? I was told that would be done by UC admissions offices…guess that means I don’t know if I’ve completed required courses until my app is reviewed :/

If they don’t accept your credits you’re screwed. You only need to have completed 30 units in the ccc system to be eligible as a ccc transfer with a completed IGETC. If your courses transfer then a year abroad will do nothing but help you…if you spin it right in your essays you can turn it into the sort of experience which enlightens your worldview.

Nah, I wouldn’t want to transfer my credits from abroad… I studied another major there because my my parents ( and I was too young to know what I like)

AFAIK, any coursework abroad won’t satisfy any IGETC. That’s standard for IGETC.
