On your other threads you said your dad is part owner of a medical office and your FAFSA EFC alone is $33k but your parents can only pay $20k. Georgia Tech costs ~$50k/year OOS. I don’t know if I’d expect much aid from them. Do you have any financial safeties on your list?
I have the same problem. I have tried online, by fax and by mail. This is an issue because the IRS form asks for the name that you used when you filed taxes. If you have never filed taxes, they don’t locate your record and ignore you (aka no response to your request, so you wait and lose time for no reason). You don’t know that you need this letter until the college lets you know when they review applications. In my case, this was in March. I’m afraid we might be unable to get financial aid because of this. Ridiculous policy that needs to be addressed between colleges and the IRS. I just tried filing 2016 taxes for bank account interest of $.45 hoping it will open an account so that they can verify. Hope it works.
@alasa go to,the nearest IRS office and pick up the form.
This is so new to me, I don’t know how any of this works. My son is now 18, which means he is the one who would need to go. He is away at college. Can he go to an office near the college or does he have to go to the one where we live?
Never mind. I see that you said nearest. I’ll try it. Thanks
You are picking up a form…you are NOT completing it there.
Just get the form.
He can get the statement of non-filing from any IRS office. They are federal, not state. He can get one at an IRS office near his school.
