hey anybody know what this residency requirement is on Pg. 306 of the undergrad calendar? it says we need a minimum of 60 credits towards the B. Sc. degree excluding the basic science classes. but if i do a faculty program, it's only 55 credits. so does that mean i need to take 2 other courses in science and not in the arts?

hey guys,

ive also been figuring out a schedule. i was wondering if 10 mins is enough passing time between 2 buildings right next to each other???

thx

I'm trying to make my schedule and I keep running into conflicts. I have a calculus 2 course which requires a tutorial. The problem is, regardless of which tutorial section I take it conflicts with something else. And for some of the courses there's no way I can get around it as there is only one section for that course in the first semester and I must do them in the first semester. Do I have to show up for the full tutorial...period?

I personally don't plan on doing so. There's also some classes I have to leave half an hour or so early to get to the next one on time (that only happens on December 1st however)
Did anyone sign up for a FYS? SSMD: 199 is impossible! That class runs from 9:05 to like 11:55! :O Admitted, it's only one day a week but it's crazy! It means MW or MWF classes you can only take in the afternoon if you must... Rules out my science classes-which I HAVE to take

Everyone likes FYS 199, eh? Meh, FYS' aren't that important anyhow. I just sent my proposed schedule to my advisor, hope to get a reply before I have to register in 4 days or so.

so you can leave early from classes to get to your next one? I mean, once or twice I don't mind, but I don't want to have to leave class before it's over everyday. What FYS 199 anyway? Sounds like it'll make scheduling other classes very difficult.

Don't know if this has been answered already, but how do we know what French course to sign up for without having taken the placement exam?

you can't sign up until after the placement exam

they have restrictions on registration for courses like that

not even tentatively? damn, that screws up my schedule.

Hey, I'm in the faculty of science and I have credits from my GCE 'A' Levels. However I'm not sure of what courses to register in Minerva. Should I register for the basic freshman science courses and later change after Mcgill has received my Alevel Certificate?

One more thing, did anyone take Singapore Alevels? Because Mcgill wants the Alevel certificate to be sent directly from the exam board. However, theres no such thing in Singapore.

I took GCE 'A' Level Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and I got B and above for them. Does anyone know what kind of credits I would get? Ive emailed an advisor and she said that I should just register in Minerva early August and then later she would assess em. But again I'm not sure of what courses that syncronizes with my Alevel credits.

Thank you so much for your time.

Hi

I'm gong to be in the faculty of science this year, and I got 30 credits from IB. Minerva says that I have credits for chem 110 & 120, math 133 & 140, and physics 101 & 102. Does this mean that I don't have to register for any other courses in chem/math/physics, or are these still courses in these subjects that I have to take? Also, will I still have to take bio courses?

Secondly, if the BSc degree requires 90 credits (after the IB credits), and a major in Computer Science is 60 credits, then if I also want to do a major concentration in another program (which apparently is 36 credits), do I ultimately have complete 126 credits? or is it just 96 credits?

Thanks,
Shabal

WOW 30 credits...did u get 7s in EVERYTHING??

anyways, i have the same question. i get credit for history and i want to use that credit and not take any HSS class. How would that work?

I think the number of credits you get might depend on what subject it is. anyway, how did you guys find out how many credits you got from IB? My minerva still looks the same...I think. Where would it say what credits you got and how many?

its under transcripts

I got 30 too. Although I didn't get the math credits I expected to get...or was told I would get.

americanadakidd, it depends on your subject. Like I'm doing a BSc and my HL's were all "pure sciences" (math, chem and physics) so i got 10 credits per paper.

ohh i got ya. After checking out the site, I see how you can get between 6-10 credits per paper

I need MATH 133 and 140, but I got MATH 130 and 131 or something instead. Does it depend on what program you're in? Because I'm currently under finance, which would require only the 130 and 131 or whatever it is I got. But I'm planning to switch to joint honours in econ/fin, which requires the 133 and 140. Will they be able to change the credits when I change my program?

If we can't register for specific courses (ie French) until we have taken a placement test, then what do we do when we register? Is anyone else in U1? Because I'm basically pulling stuff out of my ass when it comes to registration.

bittersweet28- when does mcgill document receipt of your IB scores? under unnoficial transcripts for me, minerva draws a blank. it's no biggie i'm sure, i can wait 'til the 2nd and see whether it changes
julesi26- i hear you all right~! i've got 30 credits too, but in all the wrong places! which means I'm "exempted from the Freshman Program" but not really! I still have to take all the science classes
