2006 audition dates

Congrats to all new MT majors:) I was just wondering if we could get a thread going about the 2005-2006 auditions for MT majors. That would be very helpful for all of us juniors out here:)

Thanks-Amy

Great idea, Amy! Lately I have been thinking mostly of summer programs --- UofM when will I hear!? --- but this could be a great and productive discussion to keep my mind off of that!

Would any of the other juniors this year like to post their list of the colleges where they are planning to audition? I've mulled over my "List" time and again. At this point though, my parents will not allow me to audition at more than 5 (which, I admit, IS a logical number!) - due to expense and "reality" - Except, I have 8 on my list right now. (whoops!)

My MT audition/application college list is:
UofM
CMU
Otterbein
Syracuse
Elon
(Ithica? CCM? PSU???)

Their have been many, many, many colleges that have passed through this list over the past couple of years. But, this is my "almost-final" list. ;-) But, who knows, plans will most-likely change over the summer.

Again, I'd be interested to know where any of you other juniors on CC will be headed for auditions next fall/winter! Please feel free to post...

Best,
Kate

well my list is long....as of now, the BFA audition-based programs im planning on applying to are:

Michigan
Syracuse
Carnegie Mellon
Ithaca
University of the Arts
Penn State
Hartt
Otterbein
Buffalo
Miami
Emerson
Florida State
Chicago College of Performing Arts

i'll also probably apply to one non-auditioned BFA MT program

Those all sound good. I'm sure all of us will be heading the same directions. If anyone gets any dates, post it on here because I'm sure we all need it. I'm starting to work on some stuff for next year.

Anyone have any friends or siblings that attend Boston Conservatory? I was just wondering what it was like.

Good luck to all on summer program auditions/acceptances.

-AMY;)

Hi kate-

It sounds like we have a lot in common..:) about the whole being logical about audtioning and such.

My "wish" list I guess you could say is as follows:

Boston Conservatory
U of Mich.
Baldwin-Wallace
Otterbein
CCM
Emerson
Point Park
AMDA
Millikin (possibly)

Good luck on hearing from U of Mich. I'm auditioning for a summer program at CCM on April 23rd, so i'm getting pretty excited. I don't really know anything about it, except the fact that it's a 5 day pre-college musical theatre workshop for high schoolers. If you know anything about it, let me know. I think this thread will be a good topic of discussion for the summer since I've heard a lot of audition dates are posted in July and August.

Thanks- Amy

Can we also agree to post on this thread if we see that a college has posted next year's audition dates on their web site?

I'm a junior this year and so am getting my list together for next year! It's very exciting but reeeeally hard to narrow down. I know for sure that I will be applying to:
CMU
Boco
UM
Webster
Syracuse

And there are still quite a few more floating around but those are the ones im pretty 100% about. Oh and also a saftey school that is audition but that i know for a fact I will get in cuz it's my parents' alma mater and my dad used to teach there, etc...

Also to amy asking about boco - many, many students from my high school have gone there over the last twenty years or so (both chad kimball and noah racey are alums of my high school and of boco) and i have a good friend who is there as a freshman this year. She likes it a lot I think and feels like her voice has greatly improved since last year. Whenever I talk to her it seems like she always brings up how competitive it is and how many talented people there are there. She says that it feels like about half her class came from walnut hill lol. She was already an accomplished dancer before she went there (years of ballet and tap, Interlochen for ballet two years I think) but she still feels very challenged by the dance classes at boco. So if dance is important to you, it seems like boston should be taken into great consideration. (I mean, Noah Racey went there, after all...). But yeah if you have any more questions about boco let me know! Yay class of 2006!

Remember this.. As I understand it, you cannot get an audition date until you send in your applications. So, dates help for planning purposes, but you have to get the forms in.

Many school have told us they tend to keep similar dates from year to year... So this not being a leap year, add a day on to last year's for a sense of the audition dates.

Yay for 2006 is right.:) Yes, I've heard that BoCo has an excellent dance program. Even though I'm a singer first, dance is still a huge part of my decision on where to go. I really want to get an awesome dance background because it's so important to have that..as we all know.

nytheatermom-
That sounds about right. I know the unified dates stay about the same from year to year and the rest of them as well. I guess I just feel like I need something to kind of plan my year out so my family can start to make arrangements for the long string of auditions many of us will be going through in the next year. Thanks for your help.

-Amy

yes, I think that would be a great idea. That's why I wanted to start this thread:) I'm sure we all can be each other's service. :)

Amy--That's a great idea!

My D is a junior, too, so she'll be on the audition circuit next year with all of you. I see some overlaps in the schools. She won't be auditioning on the east coast, but she'll probably see you guys at the others. It feels like the auditioning period is starting up as soon as they post the dates, doesn't it? Yikes! We're finally here. I've been reading the MT threads on CC so long, I can't believe it's finally almost my D's turn.

mtmommy-

My mom is saying the exact same thing that you are..as am i. It's so surreal. I feel like I've been preparing my whole life for the next year. It's crazy. Maybe some of us will get to meet in the next year. That would be some small world...

I'm not auditioning on the east coast either. I'm gonna audition at the unifieds possibly in chicago for some of the eastern coast schools possibly though. It would be nice to go somewhere warm, but I'm sure you're telling your daughter the same thing my mom is telling, "everything is expensive Amy, it's not going far away that's expensive, it's traveling home."

I'm sure we're all in the same boat. I thought this would be a good thread. If I hear about anything, I will post it on here..hopefully we all can help out.

good luck to you and your daughter:)

-Amy

haha and i AM auditioning on the east......that's where i live WOO HOO lol

i'm gonna go live for as many as possible....im not applying anywhere further than chicago, though....

Thanks, Amy! Yes, we'll all help each other out for next year. My D will audition at the LA Unifieds, but I think only for one or two schools. For most she'll travel to the campus to audition. I'm dreading all those days off school for her and the expense and all that of the traveling for me, but I'll go with her to each one. Yes, we don't want her too far away from us and since we live in the southwest, Michigan/Ohio is as far east as we're willing to stretch. That's enough long plane rides with connections. Good luck to you, too!

The ones I'm looking at applying to next year are
Wagner College
Emerson College
CSU Fullerton
Ithaca College
Syracuse University
Hartt School of Music
and I like Oklahoma City University, but my mom doesn't want me to go there.

so how many different schools don't have auditions to get in, just as a safety?

I'm looking at...
1. EMERSON COLLEGE (I want to go there soooo bad)
2. Ithaca College
3. Boston Conservatory
4. Wagner College
5. UofC-CCM
6. UARTS
7. Point Park University
8. American University

and in the likely event I fall on my face, its off to Fullerton College

Ohh and becuase I dont wanna go back and re-number, I really like Otterbein College. -Brian

Brian--Did you mean Fullerton College (as opposed to Cal State)? Are you from southern CA? My son is a server in a restaurant near there and said that Ron Michaelson (Ditech commercials) is a professor there and he takes his students to dinner and buys them food :) so Fullerton College can't be all bad!!

i haven't heard anything about Wagner. Do you have any info you can give me? I don't even know where it is:(

just curious..

-amy

hmmmm... unifieds is a thought for those east coast schools. Maybe my mom would go for that? We only live about 3 hours from Chicago... :-) It's a thought. I'd really like to audition for NYU and maybe Emerson.

Thanks for the good luck wish for UofM! Good luck to you too, on the CCM program! I actually really do not know anything about that program as I only just found out that CCM had a summer pre-college program this winter. The only reason I didn't pursue it further is that I didn't paticularily like that it was only 5 days - but that really shouldn't matter as far as the quality of program goes, expecially given the reputation of the conservatory!
I would really like to audition @ CCM next fall. My parents have their reservations because of the "cut" program - as to I, to a small extent. But that MT program is AMAZING!

Good luck w/ pre-college!

Kate

Thanks for the good luck wishes:) I'm looking forward to the CCM camp. I was looking for a camp that was short because I'm auditioning for "Grease" at a summer stock company that I did last summer, so it takes up a lot of time. Therefore, I don't have time to go to an all summer camp. That would be a lot of fun though. I think the auditions at CCM are for placement, but I could be wrong? If anyone knows, feel free to reply..the guy on the phone wasn't very informative. Oh well, I'll figure it out.

I watched the movie Camp yesterday and I really liked it! I had never seen it before. I didn't realize that it was taped at Stagedoor Manor and written by a guy that went there. That's awesome.
