2006 audition dates

Thanks for the info. I guess that makes it a lot easier. How soon do you find out if you made it into a school's program after the unifieds?

Does Cap21 have auditions in chicago?

-amy;)

Amy,
It depends on the school. Some let you know as soon as two weeks. You won't hear from others until early April. Mid-February through March can be a toooooooough time in your senior year from the waiting. Buy lotsa cranky pills. ;)

Found it! See the thread entitled "Audition Information" at Post #154 for Doctorjohn's complete list of the schools that were at or around the Chicago Unifieds last February.

OMG THANKS SO MUCH! That is so helpful. Thanks SOO MUCH.

Chapman is a very, very good school, however, mt is not there specialty from what I understand. If my daughter were to choose v.p. rather than m.t. that would be different. Chapman is also a beautful campus setting. My husband does alot of contact there with the Dean. I wish they would develop a good m.t. program.

Chapman has one of the country's top film programs as well.

Is there any reason to choose New York vs. Chicago for the Unified Audition? Or vice versa? I know that the main Unified founders go to both, but does there tend to be equal participation from "piggybackers" at both locations?

I went to Chicago, and all of the "piggybackers" were there. In fact, I don't think that any of the 6 schools I auditioned for in Chicago were even part of the official Unified group. I saw Carnegie, NYU, BU, SMU, Michigan, USC.

If I had to choose, I think I would pick Chicago since you can stay right in the hotel where the Unifieds take place. My D did NY Unifieds. I know some schools where not auditioning in the same location. NY did have very nice space for the Unifieds, but I think you could see more schools in Chicago from what I've read.

Audition Dates

If you are looking to audition at Elon for next years music theatre class, here are the dates:

October 28, 2005
November 4, 2005
November 18, 2005
February 3, 2006
February 10, 2006
February 17, 2006
February 24, 2006
March 10, 2006

There's one last audition date on April 7, but to audition on this day you must already be accepted into the university and you will not be considered for any talent scholarship.

I'm trying to coordinate college visits for my sister (who will be a high school senior in the fall) but I don't think it's logistically feasible to visit very many of them. I know from my own college decision process that the 'feel' I got from campus helped me immensely when I had to pick a school--but since we just don't have the time or money, would it be okay to visit the school on the same trip as her audition? What are the disadvantages of not seeing the school until your audition?

Also, when did you all find the time to visit these schools, with rehearsals, performances, workshops, etc? It's crazy! :-)

We made our decision today. Based on interest, we've decided to add a fall audition date on Friday, December 2, for both Acting and Musical Theatre prospects. We understand that CCM has scheduled an MT audition for Saturday, December 3, and we thought this might make it possible for students to do an Ohio weekend. For those unfamiliar with Ohio geography, Otterbein is in Columbus in the center of the state, and CCM is in Cincinnati, two hours south of us on the Ohio River.

Although we are not changing to rolling admissions (for reasons that I outlined in earlier posts), we will tell students who audition in December their status: accepted, in consideration, or not in consideration. Because we take so few students (typically 4 men and 4 women in MT, 4 and 4 in Acting), we are unlikely to accept more than one or two men and one or two women in each degree program. (We must reserve space for those auditioning for us later.) But we will keep a larger number than usual in consideration. Those students will be notified of our decision in mid-March, along with the students who audition for us in January, February and March. The rest of the students will be released, and although that is a painful message, we hope that it will allow students and their families to make better plans for the remaining auditions.

Does anyone know when CCM will post their dates?

thanks!

-Amy

Hello everyone,

It's almost here - yeah summer - I know my daughter is looking forward to the end of her junior year. She is very excited to be in Fiddler this summer.

I was just wondering if anyone has word about NYU Steinhardt or Tisch, Ithaca, or CMU's 2006 audiition dates. We're trying to pencil in some tenative dates.

Thank you
Lexismom

Ithaca's are up:

Amy,
If my memory serves me correctly, CCM was one of the last to announce their audition dates and it seems like it was in early October (?) We had requested info from them and got the dates in the mail around that time, but they don't have any dates before January, so it worked out okay. Hope this helps in your planning.

Lexasmom

Thank you. I appreciate this site so much.

Lexismom...
Let me try to help as someone who went through it this past year. On another thread, I recently mentioned a "tip" and I want to reiterate it here....be aware that each school's audition "sign up" process differs greatly! Make a master list of all the schools and what their sign up dates and PROCESS for MAKING THE APPOINTMENTS is (I'm not talking the audition process itself and what to sing and act...but THAT too must be on a master list). So, some schools, you just call and make an appointment. Some schools you apply academically and then are invited to audition. Some schools, you can't call but must give first, second, third choices of audition dates right on the application. Some schools only allow you to sign up online. And on and on....lots of variations. I have a sheet I just pulled from this year with all these notes on it for you.

So, going with the schools you just asked, based on this past year...

NYU/Tisch: For regular decision, all the auditions are held during the month of February. They do not have SPECIFIC audition dates (there are many all month, like most days). There are two Saturday audition dates, however, specifically for those who sign up for the optional advanced (meaning trained and experienced) dance audition (which my D did). Last year, one of the two Saturdays was Feb. 12. Anyway, the procedure is that you may call starting on November 1 to line up your February audition date. My suggestion is to call ON November 1 to have the most choice (and believe me, MANY call that day...it is busy). We did and got my D's first choice.

Ithaca: You can start calling at any time (my guess is beginning in September) to request your audition date. Last year's auditions were on Jan. 29, Feb. 19 and Feb. 26. I called on October 4 and got our first choice which was Jan. 29.

CMU: You have to register for your audition date ONLINE. It was rather frustrating last year because that webpage did not go up for quite some time (was discussed on this forum in fact) and when I checked on Oct. 4, the site said "coming soon". I called that day and was told it would go online by the end of that week. I checked often. I found out RIGHT HERE on CC the moment it went up (what a great group of folks here, eh?) and went immediately to the site and that was on October 7 according to my notes. The audition dates last year were: Jan. 22, Jan. 23, Feb. 19, Feb. 20, Feb. 26, Feb. 27, and March 6. While the dates would differ this year, I think this gives you an indication of when they occur and how many there are. We were able to get our first choice (as I said, we lined it up the first day you could) and it was Feb. 27. HOWEVER, while not in my notes that I see at the moment, I recall one "angst" moment with regard to this appointment. CMU has a webpage for each applicant and you can check on the status of materials received, still needed, etc. One time I checked there, it said NO AUDITION appt. lined up (something to that affect) and I just about died because we had pieced together all her auditions by then like a puzzle on the calendar and had coordinated the CMU audition with the PSU one and one set of flights (rental car from PSU to CMU). I was sitting with a confirmation print out from the online site from the day I had lined it up in October. I called and explained and they were very nice and said to fax them my confirmation (which showed my credit card was charged no less) and they would honor her audition appointment date. This little story is worth mentioning as but ONE example of not only keeping records of all this stuff, but also calling and checking on things from time to time (all my application materials received? etc. etc. etc.).

Hope that helps.
Best,
Susan

Thanks everyone:)
