2006: How Many Colleges Did You Apply To?

12
2 reach, 5 match, 5 safety
10acceptances, 1 waitlist, 1 rejection

I understand spreading your chances on reaches and such... but if a school is truely a "saftey" is it necissary to apply to more than like 2 of them? I mean you should get into them... you can do 2 so a fluke doesn't mess you up... but it defeats the concept of a safety if you apply to 5 of them.

^ thats true.. but my safeties were CUNY [so since i can apply up to 6 schools for $65, i just put down 5 schools]

=]

My friend applied to 25 schools!! Is that too many?

whoa... that must have been a hell of alot application fees!!

i applied to 9, got into 9 and waitlisted at 1 (weird right? one of the schools i was thinking about applying to, but never did accepted me anyways w/o an application fee, lol)

2.
Got into my first choice early action, and a safety before that, b/c of rolling admissions. So I just stopped.

Applied 7, Accepted to 7
4 matches, 2 reaches and 1 safety

Vanderbilt, Rhodes, NYU, Emory, Furman, B'ham Souther, Auburn

My d applied to 9..deferred then rejected ED. Accepted 5, waitlisted 2, rejected 1. Holding out hope for a WL school, but she's happy with the acceptances...she's homeschooled. LOTS of app work for me!!! You guys aren't the only ones going nuts with all this!

I applied to 2 and was accepted to both,

How many you apply to really depends what you're going for.
Both the colleges I applied to accept most of the applicants, however have a humongous dropout rate. It's more about what you do when you get there than what you did to get in.

I applied to 3 schools and was accepted by all 3.

Heididoe-
I, too, am homeschooled. :) And I understand your stress concerning the college admissions process; my mom had to write a huge cover letter explaining how (and why) I was homeschooled. It was a lot of work on my part as well, as I worked out everything else, including the endless list of course descriptions. . .

i applied ed to pomona so withdrew my apps from UCs and stanford when i got in, so i guess 1

I applied to 8
1 safety
1 match
6 reaches
but i only got into 3 schools =P

holy crap people!!
i applied to 9
financial aid forms are too expensive dang.

My advice is that you should apply Early Decision to your top choice. This shows the college that you are very interested in their school and so they will take that into consideration when they are looking at the applicant pool. Also, try to do as many applications as you can during the summer because you never know how much work you will get during your senior year!

bigU212-
That is what I did - though I applied ED to all three schools (my 1st choice and my two backups).

applied to 11; 4 yes, 2 wait, 5 no

God, you people are crazy. 37% at 10 or more!!!
Granted, my 1 app is low and I get that, but still 10!!!
I knew I could get in to my dream school and that was that. So I didn't feel the need to do 10.

12 schools. Rejected at 1, waitlisted at two.

10

2 accepts
1 waitlist :|
1 reject :<
