wows. well im hoping to apply to... NYU, columbia, niagra u (because i can get the fee waviered definitely so might as well), [bing,stony,FIT,albany,hunter<-backup], sarah lawrence and cooper union i have no idea what else. cus i have my heart set on nyu... =T
so that's like 6 applications total but about 10 schools. im just freaked out that i won't get into anything because i feel like i may be aiming too high...

any recommendations?

I'm interested in:
aeronautics engineering
marketing
nanotechnology
chemistry
double major in/minor in:
photography
theatre design
digital art
photo editing

I plan to apply to at least 17.

Do you guys think that applying to only 3 is enough? I am applying for transfer btw.

I know kids who applied to 2 schools. It depends on how comfortable you are with your safeties. Looking back on it, I should have only applied to 3.

I applied to one school. St. John's College in Santa Fe. Luckily, I got in. haha.

you cant apply to harvard ea if you apply anywhere ed. harvard and yale are scea, single choice early action, so you cant even apply ea anywhere else

justcallmefunk

you cant apply to harvard ea if you apply anywhere ed. harvard and yale are scea, single choice early action, so you cant even apply ea anywhere else

Do you mean that if we apply to Harvard, we can't apply elsewhere? Can you explain it clearer?

If you apply Early Action to Harvard, you can't apply elsewhere...until you're notified of your decision. Afterwards, you may apply elsewhere.

If I only apply to Harvard. is it too risky?

I hope you're not being serious.

But in case you are, yes, it is VERY risky. I don't suggest that you do that. Always have a safety...rather, multiple safeties.

I applied to 15. >.<

dv,
You are wrong, lth can apply EA to Harvard and apply anywhere else he wants RD immediately. He does not have to wait to hear from Harvard before he applys to other schools. EA is non-binding so he can wait to see what his other offers are before responding to Harvard in the Spring.

lth, when it comes to important questions like these, please go to the college websites rather than listening to posters who may be spreading bad infomation!

Harvard is SCEA.

"Harvard, Yale and other colleges that have "single choice early action" programs do not allow candidates to apply to other schools during the early-action period only. However, once they receive EA (Early Action) decisions (mid-December), then applicants are free to apply elsewhere, if they so choose."

Straight from the CC site. Please don't criticize others when you yourself don't have the facts straight.

Yes, Harvard is SCEA, which means you can't apply to another EA or ED school, but you are telling lth that he can't apply to ANY school before he hears from Harvard in mid-Dec: "If you apply Early Action to Harvard, you can't apply elsewhere...until you're notified of your decision. Afterwards, you may apply elsewhere."

Straight from the Harvard site:

"Students are allowed to apply in the fall to public institutions under non-binding rolling or Early Action programs, and they may apply to colleges under Interim Decision programs, which inform applicants of admissions after January 1. They may also apply in the fall to any institution under it Regular Action program, and to foreign colleges and universities on any application schedule. "

I will criticize anyone who is spreading missinformation.

Couldn't you just wait until you hear from your ED college in mid-December before sending out other apps? There are two weeks for this; most RD deadlines are Jan 1st. Why not save $1000 if you get accepted to your dream school?

Absolutely, if you're applying ED, you'll just have to recall all of your other applications anyway. The main thing is to make sure you have all of your applications ready before the ED decision comes in. If you wait until you find out, you may be both depressed and rushed to apply to other schools.

However, people that apply EA may have a slightly different strategy as they are often interested in seeing all of the acceptances and comparing aid offers before making a decision.

I applied to 6 schools. 4 of them were UC's, which means one application. So in actuality I filled out only 3 applications.

My son applied only to UF and got in.. Thank Goodness!!! :)

I applied to 8, mostly small schools in Kansas. I was accepted at all 8.

I applied to 5. I'm a financial aid student and they give you a limited number of fee waivers.
