I never liked the idea of applying to a ton of colleges, so I actually feel bad about my 7. I started out with 1 ED and 3 possible RDs. When Northwestern rejected me I freaked out a little. Mom made me apply to Miami (I had vowed when I was, like, 5 to never apply in state), college counselor thought Lehigh looked nice. Mizzou sent me a 1 page app that was mostly filled out, so I figured, why not? In a way I'm kinda glad I was pushed to look around more: it gave me a better sense of the college experience and made me appreciate my favorites all the more.

Well, I applied to 4 in state colleges (Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UC Santa Cruz) and Yale. I got into all the state ones, but I haven't checked the Yale website.

I applied to 8.

-Columbia ED (Rejected)

A friend of mine didn't take the SAT's until November this year for the first time, then only applied to one school. He got in.

I applied to 4 different colleges:

NC State (Accepted w/Full Ride Scholarship)
UNC Chapel Hill (Accepted)
Wake Forest (Accepted)
Duke (Accepted)

I applied to 10.

Houghton - accepted
Princeton - ?

And yes, it is mainly because of a fear of rejection. I was rejected 4/4 when I applied the year before. It is devastating.
I.. wouldn't have applied to so many, but my guidance counselor pushed for it. But definitely, I would be happy to go to any one of these colleges.

I applied to 9 schools...in the order of where I wanted to go most:

Stanford-rejected EA
MIT-rejected
Duke-waitlisted
U.Penn-waitlisted
U.C. Berkeley-rejected
Cornell-accepted
Rice-accepted
Wash U-accepted
UMCP-accepted

yea...rather dismal results for me. -.- got either rejected or waitlisted by my top choices...ahh well, guess I'll just wait and keep a bit of hope. In the meantime, which school out of the ones I was accepted into has the best engineering program? xD

Ritzy,

Unfortunately the three top engineering schools (Standford, MIT, UC Berkeley) have not offered admission to you. I think next in the list are Cornell and Duke.

My S applied to 5 (about 7% of the respondents thus far) and was rejected by the top 3 (MIT, Princeton, and Cornell). So most likely he will end up in gator country, ranked as the #1 public college in terms of the most bang for the buck.

I think Cornell is better than Duke for engineering.

3 - wasn't getting any more money from parents to do more - specifically my reach schools, AND i got in EA w/a good scholarship at a safety.

i applied to 6...in order of where i want to go

Cornell University (rejected)
Wash U (waitlisted)
University of Michigan (accepted)
Case Western reserve U (accepted)
University of Maryland CP (accepted, scholars)
University of Delaware (accepted, honors)

i'm actually completely stuck between CWRU and UMich right now

37.99% for 10+ ... and I was shocked to hear my friend applied to 10 -___-

stanford-rejected
UCB-accepted
UCLA-accepted
UCSD-accepted
UCI-accepted

I had applied to 12, did pretty good on getting into all of them, so... :) can't be upset seeing that like 8 of them are exceptional schools.

I applied 10 universities, including Yale

Why apply to so many schools?

I had a 71% acceptance rate.
Princeton-accepted
JHU- accepted
Bowdoin- accepted
Harvard- denied
Yale- denied
College Park- accepted with full ride

UVA- accepted
William and Mary- accepted
Cornell eng.- accepted

You have been accepted by three GREAT -- and I use the capitals for screaming emphasis -- GREAT engineering schools: Rice, Cornell and Wash U.

You should only be so unlucky with the rest of your life's endeavors.

I am biased, but think for undergraduate education, you will be attending the best of your pick. And remember, about 80-85% of Grinnellians go on in school. At graduation, when you join that majority, look to the schools that you applied to for undergraduate education. They may be the answer to your graduate education. And, you will find that Grinnell does well in placing you into many of the top flight programs.

just one. started regretting the gamble when i waited 4 months to hear back but i got in so i'm happy i didn't waste time applying to other schools. why go somewhere you don't want to go...
