Haven't sent it out yet (NYC's deadline is next week), but I'm submitting a short short story (titled "Kekoa") and a collection of poetry.

Isn't the only difference between short story and short short story the word count?

Haven't sent it out yet (NYC's deadline is next week), but I'm submitting a short short story (titled "Kekoa") and a collection of poetry.

Isn't the only difference between short story and short short story the word count?

No, that's the wierd thing. While the minimum word count is different for short story and short short story, the max is the same (3000 words). It doesn't make much sense to me.

Teenage_Cliche, your title has piqued my interest. What's it about?

Oh, and PaperHat, aren't you not even allowed to do the non-online submission form unless you're under 13?

It's a creation myth (usually not my thing, but I went for it and liked the end result) set in Hawaii.

Oh, and PaperHat, aren't you not even allowed to do the non-online submission form unless you're under 13?

"Oh, and PaperHat, aren't you not even allowed to do the non-online submission form unless you're under 13?"

It's the other way round (I suppose that's what you meant, heh). Websites technically aren't allowed to accept info from under 13-ers.

"I just realized I submitted the non-online submission form instead of the online submission form. Since I got my signatures and sent it in the mail BEFORE i fully registered my work (I did everything else first because the post office was closing), I thought there was only one submission form. Gaaaaaah."

Don't worry bout it--you won't necessarily be disqualified.

My titles....

I don't want anybody to track me down so I'll just give the altered name to one of my personal essays: Day and Night.

Lol, cliche ^^. Ah well...that's almost my title...not quite. I submitted 2 personal essays and a short, short story.

The difference between short story and short, short story: Yellow Woman compared to A Clean, Well-Lit Place. The latter is just so much more centralized.

Yes. I'm hoping the Scholastics people will be nice.

Anyway, I decided to characterize my story as a short short story mainly because the whole story takes place in a 5 minute bus ride, so it's pretty simple in terms of plot.

Do you know if they are really strict about the word count? One of my pieces seems to be just under the minimum wordcount.. (personal essay)

When will we find out if we got an award for Region At Large?

^ The guidelines say awards are announced 1 to 3 months after deadline.

I think you must have misunderstood me, Marimare, that's exactly what I said.

^ Yeah, I didn't see the "not" ^^

As for awards...

March for regional
April for national

INfo is part of the writing guidelines.

Yeah, but last year RAL writing winners didn't recieve ANY notice until late April, so we shall have to see how it goes this year.

Is notice by mail?

Yep...and last year the notice was awfully late

Okay.. So i sent in my entries today. I sent in the works themselves, two entry forms per work, and a $10 check. Is that all I was supposed to do?

I sent in a humor and 3 poems. My humor thing reads a lot like The Colbert Report. Lovely.

bahh, I just scraped together whatever I had for the general portfolio. Basically, I just lost $20, :(

March? Seriously? Wow, that's soon. How do you guys feel about your chances?

Personally I really liked the stuff I sent in, I'm hoping for at least one regional award and maybe a national. Hopefully.

thanks to mflevity for constantly answering all my questions :)
this thread has been insanely helpful.
I finally got everything together and sent two poems off today
