@Sethosayher I’m an Asian and that’s kind of why I want to go to BC instead of Cal…but Cal really is a better school for English majors…ugh, I don’t know. x(

And I got waitlisted at Duke! So unexpected >____< I thought I was a sure reject after a flat rejection from Wellesley.

Is anybody familiar with the structure of NYU’s poli sci classes, or something prominent in that department I can highlight in my campaign to get off the wait-list? Like, for instance do they have a unique class structure or different requirements for their political science students that makes them stand out from the other schools? I need better reasons for why I want to get into NYU lol other than academically prestigious, highly educated faculty, possible internships and the city!

I’m transferring to NYU in the fall. What do people usually do about housing? I’m not sure if I want to live in a dorm again and one of my friends said that the dorms are actually farther away from campus than many apartments are.

and am surprised at how many applicants are still “up for review” which kind of sounds that they haven’t even started reading a lot of the applications yet.

I can’t believe i still haven’t heard a word from them!

No,
i just haven’t heard anything after i sent my mid-term grades as requested
i also inform them of the award i received at my school’s annual recognition ceremony

@mrsmile–I don’t think you would have a chance to talk to anyone in admissions–I tried to get on their good side last summer, and they really don’t let you close to the process whatsoever. I called to ask if I could come in and explain my situation to someone in person and she said “No, ask all of your questions over the phone.” I would say unless you know somebody that can help you out, try to call them and get an email address you can send a short note to.

on another note, my NetID works (applied to Stern as a junior). do you get a NetID if waitlisted, or only if accepted? I can’t react to this at all until I have a yes or no on paper, in my hands :/

@missyujin: Waitlisted at Duke? That’s no small feat in and of itself. I guess they’ll tell you if you got in for sure by the end of the month?

I feel like I’m experiencing choice paralysis. An array of unexpected possibilities are now available to me…but each are so appealing that making the vital decision is proving to be a formidable challenge on its own.

I hope you find the school most suited to you. Even if you don’t, as long as you grow as a person the experience is guaranteed to be fruitful.

yx1120-it would probably help if you send in your spring 2009 grades. Housing really doesnt have any thing to do with admissions, so denying housing really wouldn’t help or hurt your chances.

@nyu44. Thanks, I will defintely send in my 09 Spring grades once they are officially posted. I hope it can help me get off the Wait list. Best grades so far. =/

and I’ve also read that some people decided to go in to speak to an officer. Would I need to make an appointment or is it walk in? Thanks!

yx1120- You might want to call and ask them if you can go in and talk to them, it would be a safer choice than just walking in and getting turned down.

then…is there any ways i could inform them of some updates i didn’t include in the application? such as my jobs during summer in my country etc?

Yeah, I was surprised. They’ll let me know by mid June, so I need to send deposits to some other school first. Still didn’t hear from NYU but I’m choosing between Cal and Boston College. Definitely leaning toward Boston, though.

The envelope is sent first class using U.S. Postal. It takes more than a week (Mine took a week and a half or maybe more) for an envelope to be sent.

About the NetID/waitlisted thing, go to the financial aid page and see if you can retrieve your NYU financial aid pin. If it says something like sent to email or could not find email, there’s a good chance you’re accepted.

@MrSmile

You can try and send them your final grades. Unless you’re wait listed, I would send my final grades (if they’re great) and wait.

@littlewing

Living at the dorms in New York is the best value you can get. You get a spacious room (compared to New York and ordinary dorm standards) and it’s cheap (considering the location… I think).

If you’re worried about distance, You can walk (some take 20 minutes), take the bus, or the metro (subway).

MissYujin,
No offense but I think choosing between Cal and BC should be obvious. I go to Cal and everything beats BC. The sports, we have top 25 D1 teams, the academics which are world renowned, the people are amazing, the parties and the weather. Why would you ever wanna go to BC where everything closes at 10 pm and you feel like you’re living in Alaska for most of the semester?
