2009 Fall Transfer To NYU

Ugh, it’s not like I want to go there, but I’d like to know still x)

@melyssa

i’m sorry if i came off as too blunt. i just think that if someone doesn’t feel comfortable taking out loans, NYU shouldn’t have been put on their list. NYU is notorious for having bad financial aid and HORRENDOUS transfer student financial aid. my roommate is happily taking out loans for NYU, and she’s not wealthy in the least. i know a lot of other people that are taking out loans as well, but they’re optimistic that they’ll pay them off.

the OP just seemed surprised that NYU’s financial aid is so bad, but it’s a pretty well-known fact. we’re number one on Princeton Review’s list of “schools with most students dissatisfied with financial aid”.

there are a lot of other schools that are very generous with financial aid, but NYU is definitely not one of them.

miss- can u plz tell us about the transfer dorms? they all seem pretty bad from what i’ve read.

which dorms are they?

Yay! I got in today! However, they want me to send my official transcript and it says my acceptance is contingent on my spring semester grades. What does that mean? Did everybody get this? Does that mean they can retract my acceptance if my spring semester was poor? What is considered poor? Ahhhh I’m freaking out.

And to those with concerns with NetID…if you are able to create one you pretty much got in. I asked the admissions rep today.

u-court, greenwich hotel, 26th, 2nd, and lafayette

oh god, contingent on your spring semester grades… i’m done for. does everybody’s letter say this? i bombed this semester.

YPDCC what grades did you apply with, are you applying for sophomore or junior placement, and what school? (sorry for all the questions, i’m just freaking out).

326–are you close to the city?

Basically as long as you dont have any Ds or Fs you should be fine.

No, I go to UT Austin right now.

AoDay, did your letter have the same contingency? did it use the word “grades” or credits/courses etc.?

@ rsb, 26th street is like a ghost town of juniors and graduate students and is pretty far from campus.

in my opinion, that’s probably the least desirable one of the ones you listed. the others are alright. nothing special but not horrible either. if you can sneak into palladium, gramercy, or uhall, coral, those are a bit closer to campus on union square (or a little north) which is a fun place to live.

Yea contingent upon satisfactory grades or something along those lines.

mr.smilie i’d be willing to help you out.

still no word today. imgoing to email them tomorrow morning to ask about the status of my app.

i wrote about transfer dorms a few pages back.

also, google up “washington square news housing guide”. it’s our school paper’s housing guide, which means it’s a bit more candid and honest than the one NYU sends out.

YPDCC it says that on everyones acceptance letter. All they mean is if you passed or got a C or better in every class.

really? has anybody fumbled big time in the spring semester and not received any notice of reconsideration/rescission?

I don’t mind taking out loans, I’m just not sure how the situation is for school loans given our economy.

I am considering applying for Spring 2010, but there is no way I could afford it. Does anyone know what the highest amount of merit they give is? My family is not willing to take out a major loan.

@rhapsody

it might be apples to oranges, but i was applying fall 2007 for spring 2008 and i failed precalc and they didn’t even know until i got there and they were just like, “whatever, take math here!”
