DD finally heard from California-Hawaii Elks Foundation. She did not make it to the national round. However, she will be getting $600 from the local lodge (2nd place winner), $200 at district level and $800 from the Cal-Hawaii Elks Foundation. A form was included, to be filled out later by the school she attends. The local lodge will hold a dinner in May to honor the winners and their parents. Good Luck to all those who haven’t heard yet!

@Joeshie; I’m from SoCal. I can’t wait for the dinner so I can finally find out, haha. Best wishes to us all
Congrats to everyone so far, even to those who didn’t make it to the next round. Money is money, and every bit helps, right?

My letter tells me I received $400 from the District California-Hawaii Elks Association. My application will be forwarded to the Elks National Finalist for further judging. No mention of a dinner. Why would I receive $400 instead of $800?

S got letter today from CA-Hawaii saying he was forwarded to National for further judging. First letter from any level. No mention of money.

Got my letter from CA-Hawaii (seems like everyone here is that lol) and got $1500 total from state and district but did not move to nationals D:

I received a letter from the Illinois Elks association saying I won an award of $500/year however this would be the only award I would be receiving. Guess that means I’m not moving onto nationals (the letter was very vague), but I am very happy with what I won. Anyone else hear anything from Illinois?

Got a letter saying I didn’t move to nationals but would get an $800 state scholarship. Oh well, there are probably people poorer than me and better achieving. And I can’t complain. :)

I called my lodge in Indiana…and they said they sent all their applications to Chicago for the national judging…

I am not so sure they understand whats going on…

I got an email today saying I was a finalist from Texas, and that I would recieve more information later…

My S received his letter from the MA state lodge telling him that he was a national finalist. The letter was a bit confusing but over the weekend we figured out that he already shows up on the Elks website… http://www.elks.org/enf/scholars/ScholarshipWinners.cfm …you can search by state or lodge # to see if you’re on the the list. My S is one of only 4 kids from our local lodge to have made it as a national finalist since 98…he’s pretty excited.

Congrats…my son is a fellow finalist from MA! what lodge did you apply through?

Well we checked the website and were disappointed to see my son’s name not on the list. We have been waiting here in PA with no word on status. Then I went back and checked and there were only 4 names on the list (and they were from the first part of the alphabet) from PA so I’m thinking the judging isn’t finished yet at least for PA as the state chair said PA would have 16 national finalists. Will keep an eye on the website, thanks for the info.

Are you sure that they put up some of the Pennsylvania winners from this year? I didn’t think I saw any names from 2011 on there. I’m also waiting to hear and I’m from Pennsylvania as well. Good luck to everyone :)

I didn’t find any names from any states listed for 2011. But, dnjsmom88 certainly had my heart racing.

I’m not sure but it appears a few people listed at the start of the alphabet are winners, it doesn’t list the year and what they won but that’s how some of the other people who received letters from other states are listed. I talked to the state chair last week and just made a general inquiry about when the PA judging would be done and he said May 1st so I think there is some confusion. He said there would be 16 national winners (8 male and 8 female) from PA and then there would be 32 girls and 32 boys who would receive a state scholarship. He said they would notify people by mail so I guess it’s just a matter of wait and see.

This is how the 2011 winners are listed on the Elks site, but like I said it appears that not all the winners are up at least for PA. Notice there is no year or award listed before the comma, that’s how you know it’s a 2011 winner. Hopefully this helps with some of the confusion:

I think they are in the process of adding the names. The first time I went through, I did not see one of the comma names, which is not to say it wasn’t there. There is only one name like that now, and my state has several more winners than that. (Plus, there is only a male student listed, not a matched pair yet).

I think ctinct is right! I only noticed a few females from my state listed and no males

My S’s name is already on the list…but it doesn’t list anything about him like college or major. That’s how we found out that he was definitely a finalist…the letter was really confusing…and I have spent most of my career teaching English. Try checking by lodge #. We are lodge 1426…I just checked again and he’s still on there…maybe some states haven’t submitted all their names yet.

Oh, I’m a dope. It’s the top scholars who are boy/girl. Still, my state should have 9 winners, and I only see one name that looks like a potential winner for 2011 so far. Good luck everyone!
