just got the email woot

I just glanced at the secondary app and was wondering why they ask if I’ve won any other scholarships? Does anyone know why? Am I at a disadvantage if I have won some? Thanks.

Just got the email:

“Congratulations on becoming a National Finalist in the Elks National Foundation 2011 Most Valuable Student Scholarship contest! You have been recognized as one of the top students across the country, and are now competing for one of the coveted top awards! These top scholarships range from $8,000 up to $60,000. The 482 runners-up will receive $4,000 scholarships. All scholarships are disbursed over four years.”

Got the email as well!!! :)

still no email here… bleh

No email. Still holding out hope for a state scholarship maybe. Has anybody else from PA heard from the state?

Son just heard- 3rd at district, no state/national

Anyone else hear back?

i heard back! I go the same email as TrueLove. So does that mean we are guarenteed at least 1000 a year and are now competing for the bigger money? if so im quite happy haha

@rahuja–Yes, you are correct, 1k per yr. x’s 4.

From Houston, Texas.

I sent my completed application to my local lodge by the deadline and have yet to recieve an email or letter in the mail. Will there be any acknowledgement that your application was at least read over or thanking you for competing?

Yay, I got my emaill too today. So if we did recieve the email that we are national finalists, does that mean we are guaranteed at least 1000 annually?

Sunspark, as long as you fill out all the info and send it in on time to the Elks, you will be guaranteed at least 1000 annually. Congrats to you as well! I just got my email today as well.

What do we put in for the “What university do you plan to attend?” when some colleges reply back in late March/early April? I don’t want to select “No” when it asks “Have you been accepted?” because that sounds like I got rejected when I just really don’t know yet.

Congrats to all Nationalists by the way!

Lennase, I am in exactly the same situation. And I applied to 11 schools, so I don’t want to list them all and say I haven’t been accepted yet.

Does anyone know if I’m at a disadvantage if I’ve already won some scholarships?

My dd got a letter today saying that she did not advance any farther than states (we knew she was not a state winner, but we did NOT know she had actually made it as far as state). Unfortunately, there is no money available for having advanced in our state, unless maybe the local lodge surprises us with something. Nice to know she made it that far, at least.

still haven’t heard anything from the state (KY) level. won 1k from local lodge, advanced past district and then to state.

so some people received emails and some got letters?

Received mail and email in California re: state, then national finalist.

No email :(. Didn’t hear anything from the state either. uggg such a failure in scholarships for me. Are these scholarships a good indicator for college decisions? Because I aimed for ivies and high level schools and I’m really not feeling so good anymore after so many rejections haha.
