2012 Transfer Chance Me! Thread

I would love to chance you! Here are my stats. I’ll go to page 94 in a sec and check yours out. Thanks!

Major: Sociology
GPA: 3.34
Applying: UCSD (top choice), UCI, UCSB, and UCR.

My ECs and personally statement are good but that doesn’t really matter because I know the schools I’m applying to aren’t going to consider them towards my admission. Thanks and your chancing is on the way !

Hey UCdrone, do you mean you have 14 units of IGETC missing? Are you done with igetc?

Your major doesn’t seem impacted at UCI but judging by last years threads, I didn’t see a lot of non tag applicants getting in with 3.17 GPAs. Your GPA is good but I don’t think that will be enough to gain admittance. Did you attend ONLY a CCC? And did you apply to any other UCs ?

Isn’t the least gpa required to apply to a UC a 2.5?
And when u speak of gpa isn’t that only looking at that majors gpa like what u got for taking the majors certain courses needed before transferring?

I’m going to check that part about your Personal statement not helping you out. My opinion on the TAG increase? It’s all about excluding the California residents to make room for out-of-state students that pay top dollar to attend. That’s how they make up for the budget cuts. Let’s say 3.5 TAG, but someone has 3.4 (California Resident), but so does someone from a Utah CC, or even International students. Who sounds more attractive?

I did read some BS on how just accepting CCC students will automatically generate a diverse student body because CCC students come from all walks of life.

Based on your stats this is what I think:

UCSD: 3.3 still keeps you in the game, but now its down to the wire. Sociology majors seem to be throw aways, (not a knock, this is great news…heck both my majors are in the school of social ecology). No parent advises anyone to take up our chosen Majors. Everyone says go engineering, business…all the big stuff. Checking UCSD, just to declare the major, it says you can do it at any time, and you only need a 2.0 GPA. 2.0? Serious, try that with engineering, or nursing! Just to be eligible for the Sociology Honors program, you only need a 3.2! A 3.2 for all Sociology classes taken at UCSD? I personally think you with your GPA declaring a Sociology major was a savvy move…an EXTREMELY savvy move! Have you finished your pre-reqs? Give me a pre-req GPA, the higher the better.

You are still in the running, but you must have faith in your Personal Statement. Are you URM? Just because the GPA went up, doesn’t mean the URM’s are going to be eligible. A non-impacted major is space that needs to be filled with a paying student. Believe me, I don’t think you should be scared, but definitely don’t get lazy. You’ll need the stellar grades if comes down to an appeal.

UCDrome: can you chance me? I’ll post a little update of my stats

Sent from my Desire HD using CC App

As far as IGETC, I need 4 units, but I’m a total of 14 units away from acquiring the 60! All my paralegal grades are throw aways. I did call admissions and was advised to explain the 10 year old “F” on transcript. Class is no longer offered and it’s equivalent is not offered in another CCC. I agree about the 3.17 being too low, UCI admissions said my GPA will be recalculated because I took a STATS (“A”) class in the Fall. If it comes down to it, I would get academic renewal on my “F”; however, those grades were used in awarding my AA degree.

I’m hoping my age, race, severe disability and personal circumstances will play a huge roll. Hopefully, UCI has to show me mercy. Counselor told me my idea for evoking sympathy in my personal statement was a solid plan. Like you said, all we can do is sit back and just wait. If I don’t get in, I’ll TAG. I plan on exceeding the 3.2…I’m out for blood! Not people blood, book blood…

Let’s end the anxiety…these are stats for undeclared majors in the Social Sciences at UCLA:

“By the way, going in undeclared for social sciences the admit GPA was only 3.36, with the average GPA of those who enrolled was only slightly lower at 3.33. Just food for thought.”

Still worried? I hope not.

Back to me, I only went to CCC. I actually had to fight to go back, I was kicked out 7 years prior and my GPA was so bad they wouldn’t let me back in. I had to go to the Dean! My new CCC is sister colleges with the one which dismissed me!

Some UC’s say you can apply with 2.5 or even 2.8 GPA. This means your GPA qualifies you to apply, but that doesn’t mean that your GPA is a competitive GPA.

Maybe I misunderstood your question but your GPA is comprised of all the courses you took that are considered UC transferable. For example I got an “A” in both Algebra 1 and 2, but those grades are not calculated into my transferable GPA. It’s weird, but it most show (if the UC even cares) that I’m a dedicated student, or at least decent enough in math. My transferable math course was STATS. Only the grade I earned in STATS will be counted in my transferable GPA.

As far a major GPA, well, it’s like holding on to hope. We want the UC to see how dedicated and interested we are in the Major, when we probably got B’s and maybe a couple of C’s in IGETC. Does it matter? I don’t know, I’ve never really asked anybody in admissions.

Hope I answered your question, let me know if I misunderstood.

Currently attending Riverside City College:

My major: Communication Studies
Alternate major: Anthropology
Updated Communilative GPA: 2.82 (i used to have a 3.57 before fall 2011)

[[*i only recieved one F, in a 5 unit language class which lowered my gpa significantly, Im planing on retaking it on summer12]]

I’m currently in winter session and if everything goes well my GPA will increase to a 3.08
After that i’ll be working on my spring semester that begins in 3 weeks.

Courses taken and grades for my major:
Comm 1: A
Statistics:C
Comm 9: In progress
Comm 3: planned
CoM6: planned
I have currently completed 34
I’m working on 7 units

Ill be taking 18 units for spring of 2012 and 6 units for summer 2012

I applied to:
UCLA
UCSD
UCSB
UCD

I need tiny hope, im really working hard right now, Im really determind and i dont want to look forward to spending another year at a ccc
I’m 19 years old, and come from a low income family. idk if that helps

UCdrome: i did understand and your right.

By the way, does anyone know how many P.E. units or courses are accepted by the UC’s?

UCDrome: for EC’s I was part of alpha gamma sigma’s honors society where I completed50 hours of community service. In fall2011

I took a look at your stats. I’ve got questions. Have you seen a counselor? You asked about the GPA calculation. The GPA you gave me, is just your major pre-reqs, or is it including the other 30 units? Have you taken both English courses? What were the grades?

Ucdrome: how many units are u planing on taking for spring?

Sent from my Desire HD using CC App

I havent spoken to a councelor after fall but im planing on speaking to one next week. The gpa i gave you was a cumulative of all my transferable cources ive taken since fall 2010.
Im currently taking an english course: English 1A and i am going to take English 1B during spring. both are rewuired by the UC system. I dont have those grades yet but i am going to have english1A in two weeks after winter session is over.

HoneyFlower, I believe UC’s are no longer accepting Summer 2012 classes for Fall 2012 admissions anymore. But double check to make sure. However, CSU’s allow you to take summer classes to complete your GE/Pre-req before Fall Admissions.

Honey, just wondering, are you an international student or second language english speaker?

lawlking:
yeah i heard that too, but ill ask. and the 6 units are just apart from what i need so it could be ok. i’m just really in that stage were i feel all sad and anxious to get better grades lol

I’m not going to sugarcoat it, I’ll give it to you straight. Applying to all those UC’s without having taken an English class may prove to be a premature move. I’m going to guess you saw a dismissive counselor who checked off a bunch of IGETC stuff. You have the right to make as many appointments during the semester as you feel that you need.

When you asked about PE courses, I became a little concerned about the time the counselor may have taken with you. I’m guessing 15 mins. I don’t think these PE units would be accepted in your major. Actually, I’m pretty certain of it. I certainly empathize with wanting to be out of the CCC system, but I think that by not having taken your English courses and still being in the middle of two communications courses, you’re chances at the Top UC’s are not at a level that I would feel comfortable telling you that you have a good chance. I don’t think you have taken any courses for Anthropology. I’ve heard that UCLA can be a real stickler for pre-reqs.

The “F” that you earned is a red flag, not because you failed a course, but the fact that you didn’t drop or get a “D” in the course. On the last day to drop a decision needed to be made. It may have been a gamble, but one that was too great a risk. Yes, an “F” during the semester you applied is that bad. Any “F” can kill you. I have one that I can’t really get rid of at the moment. I’m looking at Academic renewal, and 6 new units, if I have to go that route. But you know what? If you want it that badly, you do it. If you want those schools you will have to work on it and earn it. That’s what’s so great about applying with a strong GPA. I only applied to get over my worst fear. My chances at acceptance are pretty slim, and you know what? I don’t care, because my plan was on 2012 TAG application.

UCKitty: I’m not an international student, im just a second language english speaker.
