I believe your math yiyi. so this year only 150 scholars instead of 250?

which would explain the additional stage (more competition needed as less spots) and hte additional money?

yep it’s way more competitive this year. i don’t know if it’s because that they have more money in their pockets or if it’s because they are feeling more generous …

actually the money stayed the same. they spend 3.4 mill on total scholarships everyyear. about .3 mill go to external foundations. 3.1 mill go to high schoolers. Last year 200 finalists with 10k and 50 with 20k so thts around 3 mill. this year tht 3.1 will go to 140 and 10 like you said. i guess they are just reshuffling the money and giving more to fewer winners?

did anyone send their forms to their recommenders already? does anyone know if they have to type in the form or can they write? I plan on printing it out, and giving it to them to fill out. does it matter?

I believe you can do either one. As long as you print neatly it should be fine.

Congratulations to all! I too, am wondering about the top 10 list question as well… my initial thought was top-10 college choices? Or is it seeking a more creative response like bucket-list or something else? Thank you!

Anything really. Just show your personality! You could do the top ten college choices, but maybe add some excitement to it. Like a brief reason why you like that college or something personal, creative, and interesting.

Okay, thanks! But would some creative option more like top 10 books or top 10 games could be developed as well?

Yes. I would probably do something more like that. The top ten colleges doesn’t give you much to show your personality. Do something that really shows who you are and your perks. Make it stand out.

I made semi-finalist for this scholarship! Felt so blessed when I read the e-mail like 3 weeks ago. I have both my recommendations and all the school forms in, now I just need to tackle my portion.

I’m mailing my today! My top-ten essay is a little out of the box so I hope it goes well. Good luck to all, and to all a good night.

Do you know if the recommendations have to be in a separate sealed envelope?

Mine aren’t… o.O

mine aren’t either. both of my recommenders actually wanted me to look at their letters, so they just gave it directly to me. also, for the essays, did anyone go beyond the space provided? i wrote below the word limit, but I went over the space they provided. for the top ten list, how did you guys format it? did you have a separate line for each thing on the list? because if so, it would definitely go over the page they provided…

I wonder if it’s ok to e-mail or call them, if they received the application package around next week Monday 12/23/13, since i sent it on Monday 12/16/13? Oh, and I didn’t seal my recommendations; I just stapled them to their appropriate recommender form and combined it with the rest of my app in a 9 x 12 tan envelope. I hope I completed it correctly…lol

wait, can we staple? i thought i read somewhere that they don’t want stapled stuff. or does it really matter? i guess i’m looking way too much into this

yes it says not to staple the forms

I emailed them and they told me can go over the space provided.

I sent mine in this afternoon! Best of luck to you all in completing everything! :)

Do y’all know how we can get confirmation on whether or not our applications have been received?
