thanks guys :)

Yeah, I got deferred from Caltech, and my friend got accepted. Makes me more on edge for Wednesday… >.< Hopefully the deferral from Caltech just means positive things? xP

less than 4 days…
so far only accepted at safeties, can’t wait to hear from MIT!
and I agree with trf1021 - MIT is much better
Good Luck to alll!

I think a caltech rejection could mean you have a better chance of being a good fit for MIT, since you know you’re not a good fit for Caltech.

Hmmm the two schools don’t really look for drastically different things so that doesn’t make much sense…

That comment sheet is so cool. I wish MIT would send that out to applicants, especially rejected ones. So then they (we? hopefully not we) could feel less like their applications were wastes and then the process would feel more personalized.

My impression is that CalTech is more srs business and extreme and austere with their math/science stuff, while MIT is kinda fun and floaty (like Phoebe from Friends, only if she were an engineer instead of a masseur). Lol. Kind of an abstract way to describe it, but that’s what I feel.

Not to say that MIT isn’t academically serious, just that it isn’t so… I dunno how to say it. I don’t want to get into trouble with any CalTech people. :p

anyone think getting into CalTech is a good sign for getting into MIT?

@ nwoodward
I think getting accepted to any top tier school such as Caltech is a good sign and denotes you as a highly qualified candidate. However, I don’t see if it makes you specifically better or worse for another school.
@ CC Lurker
I know what you mean with that analogy. Seems like MIT kids are more applying their knowledge and education to the world around them, while…well let’s say Caltech didn’t find the balloons in less than 9 hours.

Stanford has so many rejects this year. I guess MIT will be one of the latest to tell its decisions. :/

Yes. One of my close friends got into Stanford SCEA! I am so happy for him! Two other friends got into Caltech. Our school already has 3 other Stanford students as recruited athletes (making it 4 Stanfords total so far!). I am so proud of my HS :').

This is a very good year and I hope in 4 days I can say I got into MIT and join the festive spirit!

dont we all want acceptance to MIT? haha. yeah, I’m going to be sitting on campus when i open up the page…

I just think MIT looks for a different kind of personality that Caltech does not. Academically, the two schools are very similar, so they attract very similar students. All I’m saying is that someone who is, as CC lurker said, extreme and austere about math/science, is a better fit for Caltech, and someone who is similar academically, but also has the personal aspect, is a better fit for MIT, and therefore more likely to get into MIT.

Or am I just not making sense?

@trf1021: That makes sense to me. And that’s the reason I <3 MIT.

I want to make robots, not be one. :)

Hahaha YES exactly :)

Hey guys,

Do they send out the tubes on the day they release decisions or the day after?

I’m waiting for the mail, and I want to know how long the wait will be…

Oh, and

MIT>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Caltech I know people who go to both schools, and the Caltech people don’t know how to party (though they do party more than harvey mudd people). And MIT has crossregistration with Harvard and about 40 other schools. That alone beats caltech.

I think they send tubes more than a day after. Maybe 3-4 days after? I’m not totally sure though.

Does anyone know if decisions have already been made, or if the admissions committee will still be working up until Wednesday evening?

Soadquake: Decisions have been made. We’re all sitting in stacks already. They just have to finalize the entire process, run some checks, and smooth any problems out before sending emails.

How do you know that? Just wondering.
