I’m the only at my school. Half of my school is applying ED to Penn

I am one of 6 or so at my school, half of my school is applying to cornell.

dosoon, my school is that way with stanford. Last year, 53 people applied there. My school has about 500 seniors each year, and we’re pretty dang far from california.

The only bad thing about knowing who else is applying is that it’s like you’re competing or something. The other girls applying have gotten catty and tried to destroy my confidence in this whole admissions game. It’s just so cutthroat when so few people apply.

Now, I’m back to freaking over finding a safety school and some intense procrastination. (obsessively checking any website that talks about MIT now that all my boxes are checked) ;-)

I’m in this massive SoCal school; 95% of the students are going to a community college/career, 5% are applying to Stanford. I’m the only one applying to MIT.

i think i might be the only one applying to MIT at my school. almost everybody from my school goes to a SC public school like Clemson or College of Charleston, but my grade’s randomly, extremely competitive, academics and extracurriculars-wise. we have a couple people who are super intense about applying to the ivy’s, georgetown, northwestern, etc.

kitkatkatie,
I go to a school in Texas with a graduating class of 617, plus or minus 20 or so.
I know the two other kids who applied to MIT pretty well and we have gotten along just fine, if anything helping each other with questions we may have or revising each other’s essays. Realize that it’s not about bringing the other person down during the admissions process, it’s about trying to bring yourself up. If the other girls try to bring down your confidence just ignore the bunch and let the decisions speak for itself. In the end wouldn’t it be better (although the odds are against us all) for more people to get into MIT through helping each other be better rather than the detrimental atmosphere of a “cutthroat” competition like you mentioned?

For everyone applying to MIT, I figure the odds are against us as it is, the last thing we need to be doing is discouraging others. What good is advice and intelligence if you decide to be selfish with such a gift?

I haven’t dared to say this to anyone other than my counselor and my parents, but my school keeps records of all the admissions decisions since 2004 and makes individualized charts and graphs available to all students and parents (data is anon). And, I go to a public school.

Does anyone else have something like this? It is mandatory for anyone sending transcripts to enter this system.

The best part is that the stats for MIT applicants at my school rock. Especially for early action. Like, it gives me a little hope, even though our sample size isn’t the best (~50 kids).

Waaah! I should stop looking at these forums and reading the old threads! It does somehow make me feel better, though. :)

@kitkatkatie

I don’t really know what to say to that LOL. Like what do you mean by is it mandatory to “enter this system”?

@everyone else

OK. Now I just want my decision. It’s getting ridiculous. I’m going insane. At least tell us WHEN the decision is going to be coming out! I’ve always had terrible test anxiety, but this is a million times worse.

LOL no need to be anxious. I’m sure the admissions office doesn’t gain anything by making us wait, meaning they are working at their own pace to get everything processed as efficiently as possible and make sure they are making the right decisions.
I’d rather have them take too much time (a couple of days past the 15th lol) than to rush anything.

Well last year they announced the decisions date on the 8th, 7 days before decisions came out. So we’ve still got a little while to wait. =(

Guys, they cannot tell you when the decisions will be released until they are mostly through selection. They’re not sticking it to you by making you wait – they don’t know yet when decisions will be ready.

They usually go into selection committee approximately this week, so I would bet that they’ll announce the date early next week or so.

I am the only person to ever apply from my school…

It happens Be prepared for things to be rougher for you if you get here. Schools that routinely send students to MIT offer excellent preparation - schools where students have never heard of MIT, this is not necessarily true. I’m in the second category (I’m the second person from my school to come here - the first was about 15 years ago and I found out completely accidentally), and it’s been a rough road.

I know of only two people from my school that are applying, including myself. But he’s doing RD.

15 days!!!

I think there are at least 10 people, maybe 15, applying from my school…out of a class of 59. So up to a quarter of my grade is applying, quite literally. The day results come out is going to be a rough day at my school.

That being said, I really can’t wait to find out. The anxiety is killing me - what’s worse, though, is the fact that I’ll probably find out refreshing a computer screen. What a glorious way to have your future revealed to you…

It’s okay, munchybunch, I’ll be refreshing too. =)
…Or maybe I’ll refuse to check for a few days to prolong hope…

I believe there are 10-15 applying from my school EA - no idea how many RD. Last year they accepted 4 people, although one was recruited for crew.

I am the only one applying from my school. I believe that I am the first who has applied in a while. Most kids from my school either don’t go to college or go to local community college or close colleges like Western Michigan or Wayne State. We only have a few even make it to UMich or MichState. In fact, we just had our first acceptee (I believe) to Harvard last year. Oh geez… things are not looking that great for me now. >.>

I think the last person from my school to go to MIT graduated in 1997. I was doing some filing for a teacher, and that was the latest date I saw. There aren’t all that many applicants in the first place, but everyone gets rejected. I don’t know of anyone else applying EA though, so there’s a plus.
