2016/2017 UT Austin Transfer Thread

Yeah, yeah, I know.

I have 30+ hours with a 3.84 gpa.
But i am still enrolled currently in a spring semester.

Will UT need those grades once theyre completed? Because I have a feeling i won’t be doing to well this semseter.

I believe you still send the transcript once spring semester is over to receive credit, but since you have 30+ hours right now, they will just be looking at the current transcript you sent with your app. @averymc

Hey is anyone else applying to Computer Science?

Mechanical Engineering?

Hi I know that you don’t belong to the engineering department. But I feel like its better to ask for your opinions. I recently submitted my application for fall 2017. however I had an awful GPA history 2008-2010. Fs here and there Ds and Cs and few Bs and As but not engineering major. After I turned over a new leaf I did very well in the community college. Joined PTK and did volunteer work.

I’m taking Cal3, Differential Equation, Physics 2, Chem 2, ENGR Statics right now. Applied as mechanical 1st choice, chemical 2nd.
I am very worried about how those old grades would affect the overall decision. and I did submit an extra essay explaining why I did so bad back then.
Should I still talk to an advisor specifically from the engineering department? Or should I just sit back and wait?

@catherinesc88 It can’t hurt to just call, but honestly it probably do much. As long as the essay you wrote explained everything you may still get in. Heck, it may look even good because you went back to engineering; you choose to do it after leaving. A lot of kids think they want to do certain major but then they leave it after awhile.

Hi everyone,

Is any one here applying for EE?
I have a 3.89 GPA and have almost all required course work except for engPHYSICS2 which I’m taking this semester.
5 LOR and good essays.
Do you know when applications will be in review for fall 2017? And how do you chance me?

Please share your opinions! I’m losing it here

Hey guys, does anyone know anyone personally that has been denied from McComb’s with a 4.0? I mean with prerequisites completed of course.

so i know we have to submit an updated transcript by june 1st, so do yall know they take that updated transcript into consideration for admissions or only the one we’ve already submitted? bc, if thats the case im pretty sure that my grades this semester are going to be a huge boost on my app compared to my overall gpa currently

It only is considered for your application if you’re applying with exactly 30 or more hrs including the hours on your most recent transcript. If you applied with more than 30 hrs by March 1st, it won’t be considered.

Best,

applying to cs, and the website indicates my application is currently in review, anyone knows that how long will it usually takes?

@teleportzhu Awhile, I read your other threads so I’m assuming your an international student. June 15th is the absolute deadline, and because your an international student it may take longer to receive your admission decision than in state students because they have priority.

@catherinesc88 I got into UT last Fall as an out of state student and had 2 F’s, D’s, and a crap ton of W’s from 10-13 years ago. UT looks for perseverence and and progression, not JUST your GPA. That said, Cockrell is much more selective than the majority of other colleges, besides McCombs. I’m not trying to be discouraging I am just providing some insight that I have learned in the last year. There is hope for you!
I can tell you that one of the most important things to Cockrell is your preparedness for the engineering program. Having many technical classes completed is a great stand out in your app. (ie: Calculus, 1, 2, 3, Differential, Engineering Physics, Chem, Drafting, Intro to Engineering, etc)

Just a note to all those who have applied and are waiting. I have been in your situation and I understand how torturous this wait is. I checked mystatus 75 times a day from March 1st to the day I was finally accepted on June 17th. That was the LONGEST and most agonizing test of patience I have ever had in my life. BUT, it was SO worth it in the end. I had thought at the beginning of June that all hope was lost. I bawled my eyes out the day I was accepted.
So, hang in there guys, it could be a long ride, but if you get in, it will all be worth it!

Also, if you don’t get in, TRY AGAIN! My hubby applied to Aerospace Engineering last Fall out of state and didn’t make it in. He put his nose in the books again and got Calculus 2 & 3, Differential Equations, Engineering Physics, General Chem, and drafting done. He will also be core complete as an in state transfer this time. We don’t know if this is enough to get in this Fall, but he didn’t give up!
Keep trying yall

Guys!! I’m freaking out because my application, which I submitted in January, has said “complete” for months. Now, where it said “compete”, it says “in review”!!! What does that mean? Does that mean my decision will be sooner rather than later? Or am I getting excited to wait another three months?

mine says in review too!

Mines also in review!

Welcome to the review stage everyone! Just remember that you cannot be “fully reviewed” and accepted until you have all of your required classes completed with a transcript sent in. For instance, if you need Calc 2 and are taking it this semester to transfer in and you have 30 hours, UT will still need to see your transcript for the spring to see you have completed the prereq. Other than that, best of luck to everyone.

@mccombs17orbust

Good luck to you man. I haven’t actually talked to any other “serious” McComb’s external transfers yet, but I hope we both make it in!

Do you mind if I ask what your gpa is?
