2016/2017 UT Austin Transfer Thread

@Ineedtoknow88

With a 3.73, I’d say that your chances of getting into CNS are pretty good. I’m not sure how competitive math and chemistry are as majors, but I think your chances are good. Good Luck!!

Alright guys, just finished my second semester at UT Tyler with a 4.0 GPA. Unfortunately my Dual Credit grades (3.07) will be factored in, but wish me luck for McComb’s anyhow!

U got this dude

Do they release accepted and rejected decisions simultaneously?

Hey guys, I successfully transferred into Cockrell this past fall. Here’s some info:

My first choice was mechanical, and my second choice was civil. I got rejected by mechanical, but accepted into civil. I ended up enrolling.

I applied for internal transfer to mechanical, and got accepted for the Spring semester. I had a 3.8 UT GPA after first semester. That had to be around the cutoff, mechanical was super hard to transfer into this year. Just wanted to let you know it was possible to sneak your way into mechanical.

For externally transferring, I had a 3.86 GPA from a lesser known out-of-state public university. I had 3 letters of rec, two decent essays (not the best). I had some volunteer work in college, and hundreds of hours from high school. I was a manager and mechanic at the the small business I had worked at for four to five years. I also was involved in a handful of extracurriculars, including a language club, rock-climbing club, and an engineering club which I helped start.

Heads up, I believe civil is much easier to transfer to than the other majors, as I have heard from university heads/advisors. Transferring between engineering majors is much easier than externally - they ONLY look at your UT GPA as criteria. I took some bs classes that counted toward my major (history, government, visual/performing arts elective), engineering communication (easy class, compared to other engineering courses), and fluid mechanics to try and get a good GPA. To try to internally transfer within Cockrell, you must take at least 14 hours for your first semester with at least 6 being technical courses counting toward your desired major. Communication and Fluids counted as the 6.

Remember - when I say bs classes, don’t shrug them off. They were just hella easier than these ME classes I’ve been taking this semester. NO classes are bs classes at UT. I had to work for that 3.8! But holy shit has Austin been a good time.

Good luck to everyone, I sincerely hope to see everyone applying come to Austin next fall! Please ask any questions you like! However, I may not respond very quickly (finals).

This was an awesome way to procrastinate.

If someone does not meet every prereq can they still get in? I’m applying to McCombs and finished Macro, Micro, and currently in Cal 1 now but dont have Cal 2 yet. Will probably take it in the Summer if I need to.

@dbrazor I believe you need to have all of the pre reqs (micro, macro, Calc 1, Calc 2) either in progress or complete by the end of the spring term or you won’t be admitted for the fall.

Not my words but just something I found from doing research and looking at previous threads. Sorry man :confused:

Here is the pre requisites page for reference: https://admissions.utexas.edu/explore/prerequisites

Does anybody know when is their deadline to push all decisions for transfer students with 30+ credits? Any info from the admissions office?

@ajaxo710 thanks, guess Im going to UH. Unless some kind of miracle happens.

Any accepted McCombs transfer?

hey, do yall think i have a good chance? I will finish the 30 hours this semester and my gpa will be at least a 3.9. Cola government my second choice is english.

@averagekid123

You’re going to get in!! Nice job bro!

Could I get a chance me to McCombs regardless of my lack of prereqs,

  • Attend a CC
  • 3.898 GPA
  • 73 Credit Hours (will receive my Associate’s next week)
  • SATs are bad but I took them in high school 1020 out of 1600 (terrible, I know)
  • Average ECs
  • Great essays, talked about how getting a job motivated me to do better in school.
  • I also applied to UT out of high school but was rejected, they have this on record.
  • 1 LOR, could have got more but didnt want to overdo it.
  • The only bad thing is that: aforementioned, I did not meet all prereqs for McCombs. I finished Macro/Micro and Cal 1, not Cal 2.
  • Might take Cal 2 in the Summer if they accept my appeal should I be denied.
  • I suppose it is important to note that I had a 2.4 GPA in high school I’m banking on the admissions office to look at my academic growth.
    My second choice major is Economics.

@dbrazor Sorry man but to be completely honest, it probably won’t happen. Calculus 2 is required for both McComb’s and Economics transfers, and it is extremely unlikely McComb’s will accept someone without the course who has a lower than average GPA. While it is still required for economics, I would say your chances are higher, but still not likely.

@UTMccombs2017 lower than average? Geez whats the average gpa for external junior transfers?

@dbrazor https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/BBA/Admissions/Transfer-Students

Here is the link to their site. I don’t know about Junior’s specifically, but for all external transfers the average accepted was 3.92 last year.

4.0 applied for COLA, I should be a shoe-in right? Just wanna get some opinions on this.

Does UT seem to be posting decisions at certain times a day/certain days of the week? Or is it just random?
V nervous out-of-state transfer

@anna9r From what I have seen, they are taking the “surefire” applicants. In other words, applicants who were way above others in terms of quality, and would be accepted no matter how competitive the pool is. (Since they haven’t recieved all transcripts for Spring yet) But this is just my assumption.
