2016/2017 UT Austin Transfer Thread

Just as @UTMccombs2017 said, most of us are here cuz we weren’t considered UT caliber straight out of HS @sp00ky. Don’t worry about high school. If they took it into account they’d ask for things like SAT and ACT on our apps. Pretty sure you do have to submit your HS transcript after you get accepted though!

@amisspelledword your admissions is honestly music to my years lol hopefully I’ll see you in RTF this Fall

@sp00ky @krisstory99 The point of an External Transfer is so they can see how well we can handle college level work, which is exactly what we will be doing at UT. Test scores are irrelevant at this stage.

@UTMccombs2017 When you called admissions, do you know if that was just applicable to external transfers, or internal transfers as well?

@mortalkings Well, I told them I was an external, however I would assume it would be exactly the same for internal. Especially since you are at UT already, all they really care about is your GPA and classes taken for whatever major you are transferring into. As far as I understand it, GPA plays an even larger role in Internals than Externals. The only situation I could see them using something silly like SAT/ACT test scores are when they have to break a tie between two 4.0 GPA’s with very similar EC’s for something like PE. Even then, that would shock me.

Do you mind chancing me also please? I applied to Health and Society which is a major in COLA.

I have a 3.824 GPA (this is an average of my two semesters since I had to switch colleges after fall semester cause of medical issues.

2 Solid Essays about the healthcare system

My Extracurriculars in college in school include like one or two clubs. Outside of school I have participated in/ am currently partaking in:

Radiation oncology Internship (this past summer)
Cardiology Internship (since last April each Saturday)
Physical therapy Internship (10th grade)

I am also abroad this summer and working in India and partaking in:

Urology Internship (2 weeks)
Cardiothoracic surgery Internship ( 2 weeks)
Opthamology internship ( 2 weeks)

The India trip is about 7 weeks long and for 6 of them I’ll be in the hospital

I also have 3 LORs from the doctors that I have worked with proving that I actually participated in the internships and am not just making things up.

Like I said, the only thing that worries me is that I changed half way through. I went and talked to a counselor in Austin and they said that they don’t care about that cause they understand that stuff happens. Wanted y’all opinion. Thx!

@wickedwarrior777 Of course! So it looks like your admission decision is going to come down to whether you leaned left or right in those 2 healthcare system essays…

Joking, of course. To me it looks extremely likely that you will be accepted. Your GPA is definitely well enough to be in the safe range, and on top of that you have plenty of relevant resume material in your application, along with 3 LOR. As long as your essays were good, and your LOR were good, I can almost guarentee you will be accepted.

I don’t believe the fact that you changed schools will affect any part of your application. You have shown that you can handle college level work with a competitive GPA for COLA along with everything else under your belt. There is no reason for them to look at that irrelevant part of your application. The head of External Transfers even told me that they don’t care which college you come from, it is all the same to them.

@UTMccombs2017 idk if you remember me but I am in the same boats are you for dual credit! It screwed me over! I’ve had 30 credits since Jan and been in review since Feb. I didn’t think I would hear back so late on the last day. Let’s hope I get into RTF

@hackum Course I remember! Well best of luck to you tomorrow man. I guess we will find out for certain whether or not they truly take DC into consideration…

@UTMccombs2017 Sorry, I should have clarified what I was referencing, since you mentioned calling admissions a few times - I meant regarding them releasing a ton of decisions tomorrow. CNS internals were told we’d be notified by June 16, and no one has heard back yet, so I’m wondering if they’re going to drop the internal decisions all at once on the last day or roll them out over the last couple days.

@UTMccombs2017 Although I guess at this point I might as well wait the day or two and find out myself, haha.

@mortalkings No worries. I was told that a LOT of decisions were going to be released tomorrow. She didn’t say that all of them would be released, but that quite a substantial amount of the remaining pool would be released. (About half externals are remaining in the pool, no idea with internals)

Chances are internals will come first, so i’m sure you will be getting a decision first.

@UTMccombs2017 My friends who applied for internal transfer to Cockrell, COLA, and Moody have heard back. I don’t know about the other colleges, and I don’t know if those 3 released all their internal decisions yet. CNS hasn’t released any internals, though, at least as far as I’m aware of. That’s an idea of the internal pool that is left to come out, for any other internals who may be reading this.

Yikes. Preparing myself for the best and the worst. Wish me luck.

@mortalkings Already done my friend. We will all know soon enough.

@UTMccombs2017 if I get denied do you think I can appeal with my spring semester grades (4.0) as new information since I didn’t have to submit it due to dual credit. I think I can argue a rising trend of grades from first semester a 3.75 to spring semester a 4.0 and show that I am prepared for college and that my lower grades in high school dual credit don’t do me justice.

@hackum Yes, that seems viable. It is new information after all, so I don’t think they could really deny the appeal. Just make sure you submit the appeal very soon after you are denied, because apparently a lot of people get denied from their major after they appeal because there are no spots left.

@UTMcccombs2017
I’m not applying till next year for fall of 2018,I have 2 LOR planned and my essays I expect to be from ok to decent.

Let’s hope it doesn’t have to get to that point! For the both of us! @UTMccombs2017

I’m over here refreshing MyStatus as if they’re gonna release decisions at 1:30 AM

@longhornhopeful1 I feel you. I keep waking up and checking it. No luck thus far… :frowning:
