2016/2017 UT Austin Transfer Thread

Hi all, been lurking for a while and wanted to post saying that I was denied from COLA (international affairs) today. Had a 3.47 GPA from ACC (3.85 not counting high school duel credit classes - don’t know if that matters) 2 essays, a good recommendation from a professor and a few extracurriculars. (I was a teacher’s aide last semester for a foreign language professor, had a lot of volunteer hours for a local food pantry during HS)

Does anyone think I should bother to appeal? I really can’t say what caused me to be denied so I don’t know if it’s worth it or not. I made the foolish mistake of only applying to UT (largely due to financial concerns) so I’m very unsure as to what to do now.

Just got Rejected for both RTF and History…
GPA-3.75
200+hours of volunteer work
2 jobs and volunteer work in Broadcast media
3 LOR
Guess I am going to UNT, just glad the wait is finally over so I can move on with my life.

Rejected from I believe both CS and History. 3.365 GPA, 3 good essays, 4 years of robotics in highschool and multiple volunteer events at STEM camps, 0 LOR, 31 hours. Was also accepted to CAP but didn’t go and went to UT Dallas instead, now regretting it. Congratulations to those who got accepted!

@Trithong @colboycsat Absolutely crap (3.033). Turns out I could’ve gotten credit for ENGL 1301 and 1302 via my 790 on the SAT but instead I took them dual credit over the summer and it tanked my GPA so bad fml. The only reason I even tried was that I got offered CAP instead of freshman admissions but I already have 30 dual credit hours so there wasn’t a way CAP would really work for me so I thought it was worth a Hail Mary and I appealed to be considered a transfer. I thought my resume was really good and tied well with my major but it make sense GPA is the most important factor.

Nursing is killing me…anyone else here still waiting for a nursing decision?

At this point I’ve accepted defeat and just want to know so I can make arrangements for the fall.

@Gingtheming even COLA history? wow i thought 3.75 was high.

That’s what I thought was well, but they are apparently going hardcore on COLA as well. Hope everyone has better luck than me though.

Man COLA must’ve had enough of being considered the “easy” college to get in and took a page out of CNS and Cockrell lol

@Gingtheming you should call the office of admissions to see why. What if it has to do with not accepting credits or something besides ur gpa? I would def call. I have a 3.7 and now I am ******* worried

How long do y’all think the appeal process will take? I need to figure out housing for ACC/Texas state now and can’t wait another month.

Rejections for those with COLA as a second choice are probably due to the fact that COLA seats are given preference to those who indicate COLA as their first choice school. From what I understand the 1st and 2nd choice thing is somewhat of an “illusion” because you are typically disadvantaged in gaining admission for your second choice major. I’m still in review for COLA, first choice philosophy second choice anthropology. 3.875 GPA, good LORs, pretty good essays, good ec’s/work/volunteer hours…patiently waiting.

Long time lurker of this page. I was also denied from McCombs but accepted for Economics just recently. Not sure if I will go to UT for Economics. I had a 3.89 GPA With 57 Credits ( only two b’s) with all pre reqs done. I’m sorry you didn’t get in either. How many credits did you have completed at university? Also, are you going to appeal and what will be your justification?

How do you appeal?

Does UT stop releasing decisions at 5PM?

I know they stop picking up calls.

@supersaiyanhan I got denied from nursing a couple days ago but got accepted in Psychology. I believe that if your MyStatus link at the end has a 01 then you’re still being considered for it! I wish you the best of luck. When I got denied I called and asked why and they told me space is extremely limited this year and that last year admissions for nursing was in the single digits :frowning:

Also does anyone know if I can switch my major to Undeclared before orientation? I got accepted into psych but I kinda want to just be undeclared so i can apply for an internal transfer to nursing. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

@colboycsat Yeah, i’m going to pursue an internal transfer. Have you heard back yet?

@UTMccombs2017 I have heard internal transfers are very difficult. So I presume your accepting economics? How do you start the appeal process? I am in the same boat as u

@maib121 Yeah, I believe i’m going in as Econ and internally transferring. I have the prerequisites done so i’m not terribly worried. To appeal, visit https://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/decisions

@crispz can you explain why you have to be undeclared to transfer? My second choice was biology and I’m considering trying for an internal transfer. I’m already at 75 hours and I don’t think there are many classes I can take without being a nursing major since you need 24 in-house hours before transferring internally.
