2016 Acceptances

I was accepted into the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences as a Chemistry major, pre med track today! I finished my application 10/12 and it was marked complete 10/21.

@aburrz - did you self report grades or have high school send transcript?

I’m concerned because my daughter was deferred and asked to take the ACT again and send her first semester grades. Well, so far so good, grades-wise – all As, including in her APs, and one B. But she dropped by three points on her ACT. She was right in the zone but not on the high end, and now she’s on the low end. She’s very upset because Pitt is her first choice. Is the expectation that the second score will be better? Does it hurt the application if it drops? Assuming she does as well in the next quarter in terms of her grades, does she still have a chance? She’s out of state but has great ECs, lots of leadership, volunteer work, a paying job etc

@16sydt, Pitt looks at English and Math subscores. What were they on ACT try one and two? They will superscore and use highest scores.

I applied on Nov. 20 and received the email back yesterday. I was so excited to be accepted!!!

GPA: 3.2 (UW)
ACT: 25 (Composite); 26 (super-scored)

Wow @Hanson28 You applied Nov 20th and got a response back on 11/30? Given the Thanksgiving holiday that means they turned around your app in about 3 business days. That’s pretty impressive.

@adlgel - your son still hasn’t heard from Pitt either? We’re at 5 weeks waiting now…sigh

@Balaur - still no response for my son either. We have confirmation that his Pitt app was complete on 11/5 so tomorrow will be 4 weeks for us. We were definitely spoiled by the very quick turnaround to his Penn State app which came on the heels of two other quick acceptances.

@twodogsnight I did both actually! Just to cover my bases. Good luck to you!

Thx @aburrz. Curiosity got the better of me, so I called the admissions office (asking a general question, since I’m the mom, and do not have authority to call on S’s behalf  Was told that it takes longer if applicant does not self report grades, because staff have to enter grades from transcript into Pitt’s system. My S’s application was complete about 6 weeks ago, including transcript sent from HS, and no word yet. Hoping that’s the hold up!

my D has a 2080 superscore / 3.81 weighted GPA - application was completed on 10/12; still waiting to hear back. anyone knows how long it takes before you hear back with a decision?

@njdesimom It looks like it’s been taking 4-6 weeks, but I’d expect that it may take longer now due to the holidays and higher volume.

@16sydt, If you give our office a call and ask to speak with a Pitt Admissions Counselor, they can talk you through the best steps your daughter can take: 412-624-7488.

@balaur I haven’t heard back either but I’ve been waiting 8 weeks now… 3.53 GPA and 28 ACT with great ECs and tons of leadership and volunteer hours as well as a club sport

@hailtopitt1787 I know you deal with a lot of impatient, stressed out parents and students and we appreciate that you take the time to post in this forum giving answers and reassurance where you can. I’ve seen previous responses that indicate it should/could take 4-6 weeks to receive an application decision. I translate that to “don’t call us if you are still within that window and haven’t received a response” but said in the nicest possible way :).

I was wondering whether there is a maximum window within which an application should receive a response and if a response isn’t received in that window it does become appropriate to call admissions directly to check on the status of the application. For instance, @aglaser has been waiting 8 weeks, is that still within the expected window for receiving a response? Thanks for any insight you can provide.

@aglaser and @adlgel,

8 weeks is on the long side for us (though not necessarily call for alarm, our Admissions Committee is quite swamped this time of year). Please check the status of your application and make sure nothing is missing. Feel free to call our office: 412-624-7488.

Hope that helps!
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

I’m just getting a bit nervous waiting.

@hailtopitt1787 Hi, I was accepted to the University of Pittsburgh last Friday 11/27 and in the video they sent me through email, my acceptance will be coming in the mail shortly. Is there any possibility I could track the status of that, I can’t wait for it to come :)). And I didn’t receive a mypitt account a week after I finished my application. Should I call the Office of Admissions to create one?

I got deferred back in mid September and I thought I wouldn’t receive a decision until I submitted my mid-year transcripts, but I got accepted to the Swanson School of Engineering today!!! I guess after I submitted my ACT scores they re-evaluated my application right away without my grades!
Stats:
SAT: 1850 (R:570, M:650, W:630)
ACT: 29 (R: 31 M:27 E:30 S:27)
GPA: 4.0 UW
Rank: 11/137
Other stats: 4 APs, dual enrollment, and took classes at a local college with current college students

@hailtopitt1787 I received a missed phone call from Pitt this evening. Is it normal for the university to call those who have applied or have been accepted. I am a triplet, and I have already been accepted. My siblings are still waiting.
