2016 Acceptances

Yes, I didn’t realize at first how lucky he was, but now that he has been waiting 4-5 weeks on Pitt and OSU and seeing others receive their acceptances, he appreciates even more the quick acceptances from the other schools. OSU and Pitt are his first and second choices so it makes waiting to hear on those that much harder.

D16 was accepted back in September…has anyone accepted (non honors) back then heard about any merit awards/scholarships yet?

My son was accepted in September and has not heard about merit awards yet.

My son was also accepted in September. Haven’t heard anything either.

I don’t think merit is awarded without honors eligibility, but I could be wrong.

@hailtopitt1787 - is post #264 true?

@smokinact,

I am going to pull some information from our site because it provides some helpful details:

Criteria for scholarship consideration include SAT/ACT results, overall grade point average, class rank (if applicable) and strength of curriculum. Activities outside of the classroom such as leadership positions, athletics, community service, etc. are reviewed but given secondary consideration.

In recent years, scholarship eligible students possessed ALL of the following:
-minimum SAT score of 1450 (math and critical reading scores only) or 33 ACT (Math and English subscores average)
overall ‘A’ average
-top 5% class rank (if applicable) while participating in challenging high school curriculums consisting of AP/IB/Honors

courses
-record of excellence in various academic and nonacademic activities outside of the classroom

Hope that helps clarify!

DD has everything except she is in the top 6%. :frowning:

@hailtopitt1787 where do we put information about our activities and such on our application? do you recommend we send a separate resume to pitt?

There are engineering scholarships as well, but I don’t know the criteria for them.

@sydneyk98,

We recommend that you use the Short Answer Responses to outline any activities you’d like to bring to our attention. The Short Answer Questions link will be emailed to you within a week or so of the time you submit your application.

Hope that helps!

@hailtopitt1787 Is over 10 weeks a long enough time since the application was marked complete enough time so that I should call the admissions office to check if everything’s okay again? I did back at the end of October but it’s been over the window they gave me to expect the email/letter. Thanks!

@ametrine, You are welcome to call: 412-624-7488. Since we are farther into the application season, our Admissions Committee has quite a few applications to review. They are trying to do so as efficiently as possible, but I suspect that it has just taken them a little longer to get to your application than they originally anticipated. If you call, one of our processors would be able to look at your account and let you know if a notification of our admissions decision is on its way to you or not!

@hailtopitt1787 - I was wondering when will the Admissions Office close for the holidays and re-open again? I’m assuming no decisions will be going out during that period.

@balaur, Our office will be closed from Christmas to the Monday after New Years. There will be a few staffers around for a couple of days in that window, but I don’t believe the Admissions Committee will be making any decisions. They are working very hard to make sure as many decisions as possible go out before that holiday break!
