Do they reject people at this point or would they wait until later? I’m dying rn lol
@itslife123 a cc linear algebra curriculum harder than a top UC linear algebra? oh my, lmao. I heard lots of ppl transfer from SMC to USC so maybe they do realize that?
what is sgr?
@journalisticjay lol
?
@journalisticjay SGR stands for spring grade request which gets sent to people before an admissions decision requesting your spring semester grades. Many applicants receive one because they either don’t have a lot of credits, have lower grades, taking GE or major core courses (so like taking important courses while applying so USC wants to make sure the applicant is doing well in those courses) or just because USC wants more information about an applicant before accepting or denying them.
Come on guys, let’s help each other out. That’s what we are here for.
Good luck to all of us in these last few months woooo!!!
this may sound like a dumb question but i’m thinking about starting at my state school and applying again next year as a transfer. my question is, if i will be taking 5 classes that are 3 credits worth will i have to wait to reapply the following year to have 30 units? if that makes sense, idk it’s kinda confusing to me because isn’t the deadline for transfers feb 1. i will not have 30 units by the end of my freshman year but i will by the time i apply. someone please explain…
@journalisticjay you don’t need 30 credits to apply, but if you have under 30 they will take your HS grades and test scores into consideration. Otherwise, as long as you’ll have 30 credits completed by the end of the spring semester, they’ll solely focus on your college grades. Ex: I completed 16 transferable credits in the fall, and I currently have 16 transferable credits in progress. I’m basically guaranteed an SGR (unless I’m rejected), but I will have 30+ credits by the end of the spring semester, so they will not consider my HS grades or test scores.
@penntousc ok thanks! that clears up everything for me. My high school GPA is slightly above average (4.0) but my ACT is terrible, I really do not want them to consider my high school test scores. so so glad u shared this info with me!
My fafsa hasn’t updated because the stupid IRS shit is still left for me. I got letter from them in the mail (FINALLY) and it was stated I sent in the wrong info which I did the first time but I sent in corrections right away but still have to wait for that
@penntousc Oh wow I didn’t know credits could be a reason for a SGR. That makes sense, though.
I would imagine then every first year transfer applicant should receive one. I’m still so confused why others got accepted with just one semester completed and an average GPA.
@EnduranceArtist well most TTP applicants do get accepted without an SGR, so your situation is sort of unique and I really don’t understand why you haven’t been accepted (could come later this week though). Otherwise, just about every non-TTP first year transfer applicant receives either an SGR, or a straight up rejection.
Hi guys. So I am an econ major with 3.79 GPA and 60+ transferrable units. But I am just taking Calculus 1 this semester. Does it affect my admission chances? Thanks!
What’s up everyone, I’m a first year business major currently attending SFSU. I have a 4.0 GPA, and am currently taking 15 units per semester to meet the 60 unit requirement by the end of my second semester of next year. (I’ll have 27 units when this spring semester is over, but I’ll make up for the 3 next year or in the summer)
USC is and has been my dream school, and I’m just trying to clear up some confusion about classes. I’ve taken both economic classes, a business calc class, and the rest of the classes I’ve taken have been GE’s. What classes do I need to prioritize first semester next year? Or do I just need to complete all the requirements before the end of my second year?
I’m always still sort of confused on when I should apply for transfer. Is it right after my 60 units after spring semester of my second year?
@XanGriffin well you could have applied this year with 30+ units and they would have ignored your HS grades and test scores, but the best classes for you to take next year would be the first two writing courses that make up USCs writing requirement, accounting 1 & 2, and the GEs you haven’t satisfied yet. I’d recommend taking the 1st writing course in the summer, so that you can take the 2nd writing course in the fall. That way when you apply, you’ll have the main requirements (bus calc and writing) and most GEs completed, which means you’d have a shot at an April acceptance, as opposed to June-July.
Hey guys! I have a “what are the chances” question.
I am finishing up my freshman year at a community college with a 4.0 gpa and have taken 20 units so far with 5 units non-transferable and 1 W on my record. The classes I took were history of rock, ceramics. english 101, and elementary algebra (The 5 unit classes that is does not transfer) and the 1 unit class I have a W in is freelance journalism(school paper). For winter quarter I took Kinesiology and sociology. And I am currently taking 15 units of History, international relations, english, lit of bible, and Econ.
I am unsure what my chances are since my first semester/quarter classes were not core GE’s for USC although they transfer. I do have a 4.0 but since my high school grades were not all that Im afraid those grades might take a huge tole on my admissions decisions.
Any thoughts?
@penntousc Thanks for the help. I forgot to mention in my first post that I took English 104 my first semester and am taking English 105 currently (a stretch course that counts as 6 units that’s hilariously easy). English classes have typically been my weak point, so I decided to go in this English course over the 114. Does this English class count as a writing course, or is this a completely different class that is required?
@XanGriffin I’m not sure, there should be an articulation history between SFSU and USC so you should be able to check and see. Here’s the link for the histories:
@XanGriffin if there’s no history between the two, I would recommend emailing your regionally assigned USC counselor and ask.
Still so far away :((
