You’re right. You never know. I’m just saying the students with the best chances
@ejsutton2006 I was talking about something else, I knew they would give him a generic response. I just come on here to see if anyone has their decisions yet…sucks to read the same question a million ways because he didint get what he wanted lol. @EnduranceArtist nobody here can make you feel better, USC counselors cant either. Take it as a learning experience…life is not always fair and you don’t always get what you want when you want it. Again, submit your grades and wait. That’s all any of us can do. If your essays are in any way like your posts on here the SGR makes perfect sense. -my theory.
@bugajskj I’m only curious. Wouldn’t you be, too?
@EnduranceArtist your curiosity is more than justified but I don’t really know what you want us to tell you… we’ve told you the reasons why people get SGRs. USC simply wants more information about you.
Yes we know you got a 4.0 but that’s only one semester, grades go up and down all the time. Yes some people got in with only one semester but they had a different application than you - different essays, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation etc. yes while those aren’t the major things USC looks at, they do play a role in the decisions process.
Yes a SGR is strictly grades, but grades are also information about you. Like your ability to maintain such high grades.
In addition, getting a 4.0 even as a TTP will not automatically get you in. TTP is NOT guaranteed admittance, but you probably will get in at some point because you are a TTP.
There are always people with 4.0s who get rejected while people with like 2.3s get in. You just never know.
If you maintain a high GPA, as a TTP, there really is an extremely high chance you will get in. You just have to wait a little longer! Good luck! We all just have to endure the wait a little longer. Like your name, endurance is an art. Only a little while longer… WOOOO
@mellyjune Well said. Good luck!
@EnduranceArtist No, because I know there are thousands of students coming in and out of the university with a broad range of skills. I do not feel I am more deserving than someone that has a lower GPA, simply because of the GPA. Asking the same question over and over is in vain. You know nobody has the answers for you. Everyone has given you their opinion which is relatively the same. The college selected other students over you for reasons unknown to anyone here. Nobody here is going to tell you why, or that USC was wrong, or that your more deserving. All I know is that I would take a 3.5 gpa backed by resilience than a 4.0 backed by egocentrism.
Your on TTP, enjoy that fact for what it is. Roll with the punches and you will be in before you know it. That’s it.
Hey guys! so I’ve posted once before in this thread already but life got in the way and i didnt really check up on it, but I’ve been at a CCC for 3 semesters now (this is my third) and I currently have a 4.0 gpa. I’m a bio major on the pre-med track, and I’ve finished the Calculus requirement, english requirement, and a few other GE’s. I’m on my second semester of biology and my third semester of chem (first sem organic chem), and am aiming for another 4.0 this semester. would I receive a SGR? my recommendation letters are pretty strong but im not sure about my essay (i wrote it truthfully but i have no idea if it sounds like everybody else’s haha.) I’ll have around 50 units by the time i finish this semester, so i’m not sure if i qualify as a freshman or sophomore applicant. what do you think my chances are of getting in?
What is with all of this insanely negative attitude… this thread is probably more for coping/making this long wait bearable than anything else, and if asking the same question helps to ease the stress, and someone is willing to answer the question, then so be it… no one on here is forced to read or respond to any of these posts, most of us do it because we like to help out. @bugajskj I understand what you’re saying but the easiest way to avoid getting annoyed by a recurring question is to ignore it, no room here for constant pessimism.
@EnduranceArtist I think I actually might have told you that there’s a chance you could still receive an acceptance before the spring semester ends, I’m pretty sure someone last year (not TTP) got an SGR in May and before they could even send it in, they were accepted. You’ll probably be fine, I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in within the month!
@Shuisazn I’d say as long as you’ve got a good amount of GEs completed, you won’t receive an SGR. You definitely have a solid chance since you’ve got a 4.0 with the requirements completed, but I think an SGR will depend on GE completion. Good luck!
@penntousc your confusing pessimism and negativity with reality. The truth isint always bubbles and rainbows. I agree that we are on here to get through this but asking “why them and not me” over and over is not coping. It’s like a child that didint get a candy when he was promised and pouting about it…although they will get it later. I’m sorry I don’t support that. But hey if what I say is viewed as negative compared to that I’ll gladly disappear and vulture around to see when decisions are being made. I just figured this guy could maybe learn a little patience and humility.
@bugajskj I’d like to think we’re all plenty old enough to know patience and humility, but if I were a 4.0 TTP applicant who’s done everything USC has suggested that I do and I received an SGR, which is VERY rare, I’d be a little concerned too, as would the majority of applicants on this thread. All I’m saying is that you’re preaching patience and humility but you’re showing little of that yourself but continuing to fire back at a guy who’s asking a question indirectly.
@EnduranceArtist @penntousc also don’t quote me on this but seeing as how people have gotten SGRs and then accepted before even turning them in seems like it could be like a waitlist type thing in that they definitely want to accept you but want to see the rest of the applicant pool before making the decision. There could easily be a ‘better/more qualified’ applicant at the bottom of their pile but if they accept all the people they like the moment they see the applications, there may not be enough room left to accept the qualified applicant who was unfortunately placed at the bottom of the pile when sorting and downloading all the applications.
I feel like thats something that could potentially make them ‘change their minds’ and go ahead and accept a person before receiving SGRs after seeing a little more of the applicant pool. unlike regular high school applicants, our decisions come out on a rolling basis and not all at once, so some decisions will be made before they even read all of our applications…
not saying this is THE reason, but it could be a possible explanation.
@penntousc I am firing back because he is throwing other applicants under the bus. It’s not just about him, its about why others got in before him. Obviously the “chance me” type of questions are useless but legitimate…people worry. However, there is a difference between being concerned over an SGR and measuring yourself up to others on here and justifying why its unfair. Could I have practiced a little more patience? Maybe…considering that most of us on here already gave him our 2 cents and he keeps asking not for information but for validation.
You say that he’s plenty old enough to know about those things but the fact that he’s looking around for validation shows immaturity.
I just fail to understand how telling someone to get a grip, move forward, to stop comparing themselves to others, and letting them know that only they can make themselves feel better is negative? I actually believe thats the most positive and realistic thing you can do. IMO coddling isn’t positive, its just inflating someones ego.
No pun intended but I really hope if/when I go to USC my peers have a thicker skin lol. I am a straight shooter and speak my mind, you won’t catch me in a lie and I love to push people to become better. Maybe I can learn a little more patience because age has nothing to do with that. But the way this guy is approaching this is not right.
Hello, I’m not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I’m looking to apply to USC for the following school year.
I am currently a journalism student at Cal Poly SLO, looking to transfer because the environment has become inhospitable for me. I recently broke free from a trafficking ring that my aunt got me into and it’s probably best if I relocate for both my mental and physical health.
Anyways, I am a fourth year but because I’ve withdrawn from some classes/was a part-time student while battling my personal life, I am woefully behind on graduation.
USC is one of my dream schools in that I wanted to go there for a MFA in film. But now I’d like to see if I can hedge my bets and transfer. I’d like to apply for journalism or film.
I’m wondering if any of you have some insight and could maybe direct me to the best place to start the transfer work now. I am struggling to figure out my first steps.
Thanks in advance,
fae
Thank you @penntousc , that’s a great reminder. Yes, I remember you mentioning that now - the puzzle pieces are coming together.
I would like to clarify that I was not posting with the intent of seeking validation. I was simply concerned (as others have said they would be too) and curious how SGRs worked in the context of transferring to USC. I’ve since learned that they are not always issued purely based on grades, but because of other conditions – be it simply just to give them more time to review other applicants, as @mellyjune brilliantly deduced.
I thought it would be helpful for me to post the response from my counselor because I know there may be others who could end up in a similar situation, and may want to know how my situation plays out. If I’m posting and asking questions, it is with the intent to help update and understand the situation for those who follow it, be it now, or in the future.
@faithfulfae I would recommend going to USC during a transfer session, they will give you all of the information you need. There are also some USC transfer videos made on youtube by transfer counselors.
Good Evening Everyone,
Please excuse my unwillingness to search the threads for similar answers to this question. I just have a really quick question on admission decisions from USC. I understand that some of the TTP applicants have already received their decision and some; spring grade requests. However, a colleague of mine who has also applied for USC already received an acceptance from them about 6 days ago who is not on the TTP, will be transferring in as a sophomore, and applied for the same major as me. Is there a science behind my colleague’s unusual early decision? Or is my colleague just very lucky?
@ivctransferusc what is your “colleague’s” stats?
Quick Opinion question: I know I should be directing this to admissions but if I were to withdraw a math class (Not required) and you are waiting for an admissions decisions/SGR, would you guys tell them ahead of time or once you hear back from USC ? I’m worried that one might be worse than the other.
@ivctransferusc that is really odd… how many units do they have?
