2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

@zettasyntax What does SGR mean?

Also, what about entrance exams? Do all colleges have them?

@dexterjettser I also applied to Thornton. I’m from LA and haven’t received anything. Which major did you apply for?

@StipendAwarded I was accepted this weekend for my sophomore year fall 2018 and I have done zero extracurriculars my freshman year. I only focused on my gpa and completing as many pre-reqs/GEs. But remember every single application and situation is different!

@danceon What is your major, gpa, and test scores then? How many APs? What transfer requirements did you not complete? No offense. Also, how do you have a decision when they said May 31 was the date of notification?

@zettasyntax So the transfers have a rolling deadline from February 1 right? So judging by that pattern, they could notify you before May 31 about the decision or if they need spring semester grades?

Also, is the transfer essay different from the freshman essay?

Hi all! I’m applying CS for Viterbi and went to talk to the admission center and talked to a representative and he told me that the freshman application process JUST ended and they are off schedule compared to past applications (with the significant amount of applicants this year) and he said they just started to look at applications (This is for Viterbi so I am not sure about the rest of the majors). He said for me I would probably get it by may 31st because I have a lot of units and I live in NorCal. Hope that helps!

is anyone else getting headaches from the financial aid office? i had two required documents about my noncustodial parent pop up a few months ago and i sent in waivers for them and just this week those two required documents showed up again and i have to send the same waivers. im not sure if my waiver has been denied or not because they said they would contact me if its been approved or denied but they never emailed me. if it does get denied im not even sure what to do because i havent seen or talked to that parent in 7 years and have no contact info. its so frustrating

@danceon ; @FriesAreBae ; are your current schools on a semester system or a quarter system? Since one quarter unit is less than a semester unit (1.5 x 1 semester unit = 1 quarter unit), I was wondering whether USC has enough history or grade trend under a quarter system (decision based solely on Fall quarter grades) to make a decision. If not, it would seem reasonable for USC to request Winter quarter grades (to see more trend in grades) for TTP’s on a quarter system like most UC’s.

@frozenbighead I am TTP and got a 3.3 first semester. But I’m double legacy and had good HS grades, plus a 30 ACT so I’m not sure if that matters.

@joeyfreshwater Thank you! hope you will be admitted after submitting a good spring semester grade.

@hopefultiffany Thanks for the info! Did they mention when the first round of decisions might go out?

@StipendAwarded February 1st would be extremely early to hear about anything, heh. Although, this transfer cycle there seems to have been at least a few cases of non-TTP people hearing back around late March like TTP students. Usually it’s the performance/talent majors that can hear so early, but maybe USC is changing things. Heck, the TTP late March acceptance stuff first happened last year (I believe) and that really surprised me. A transfer acceptance in March? It seemed unheard of :stuck_out_tongue:

USC can be cruel and ask you for spring grades on June 1st/whenever their deadline is. They really like to make some applicants wait. I received my SGR on April 23rd the first time I applied a few years back. I’m sure the essay prompts are different. Heck, even some of the transfer essay prompts from when I applied are different now.

I am on TTP and got accepted this past saturday! does anybody know when financial aid should be available?

I believe USC stated it’d be early May @ilovelamps

@zettasyntax SGR-Spring Grade Report right? Once I get my report, can I send it to USC even before they ask for it (if that ends up the scenario)?

TTP is for community college legacy (SCions) right? I am going to be in the George Mason Honors College for my freshman year. The closest tie to USC that I have is an aunt who married my uncle. The spring semester for Mason ends like a few weeks before May 31, I believe.

I read that the common app essay prompts will be the same for 2018-2019 as they were for the previous academic year? Do transfer applications on the common app use the same prompts as freshman prompts?

For those who got accepted, how long after you got your mail did your portal update???

@ilovelamps : same question I asked in post # 926 this morning. Are you on a semester or quarter system? Just wondering. Thanks.

@UCBUSCalum I was on the quarter system. I sent in my winter quarter grades (without USC requesting it) as soon as they were finalized on 3/28 and got an acceptance dated 3/30 and received my package on 3/31. I did not expect them to respond so fast!

Did anybody who was accepted see their package on informed delivery?

@collegequestions1799 yes, I saw mine the night before I received it

@ilovelamps omg! i see a package coming from compton…is that where yours was coming from?
