2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

I have a question that I’m a little worried about. So I’m a psychology major and I was wondering if we have to finish the foreign language requirement before transferring. I have taken two years so far

Any applicants from PCC?

Hi everyone! I’m a sophomore applicant applying to USC Marshall. These are my stats:

California CC
GPA: 4.00
Finished all Marshall pre-reqs
Total semester units completed by spring: 45
GEs completed: 6/8

I completed both Calculus 2 and the English requirement last semester. I haven’t received an SGR yet. Do all sophomore applicants typically get an SGR instead of a right away decision? I don’t think I can wait until July :((

Applied as a bio major from ELAC. I have an associates in natural science. Will that even make a difference in terms of increasing my chances?

@collegerose Tbh I’d be surprised, if you don’t get accepted outright.

@collegerose Yo we pretty much have the same stats, but I’ll only have 37 units completed by spring. I’m really hoping we don’t get SGRed bc we already completed pre-reqs and our GEs :-SS . Are you taking any accounting classes?

@Vincent1997 thank you! I really hope so. I’m just slightly worried because I’m only on my 2nd semester of college.

Here are my stats I guess

Viterbi
Junior Transfer
Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.89 (B in Calc 1, A in Calc 2, B in Physics, As in everything else)
Classes in progress: Calc 3, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and a CS class
Status: Pending

@NotLonelyIsland Yeah! I hope we don’t get an SGR haha. And yes I’m taking Accounting 1 right now. What about you?

@collegerose I did misread a little bit. I thought you said that you already have 45 credits. Nevertheless, you already finished Calculus 2 and English last semester, which is a huge plus. I still think that it’s likely that you get accepted outright. In any case, I’d be really surprised, if you didn’t get in (even if that means after a SGR and assuming you keep your 4.0).

@collegerose Same here dude, taking Accounting 2 rn.

@phunphunphun Awesome, I transferred from ELAC  Unlike the CSU’s with their associate transfer guarantee thing, I’ve never really come across any information pertaining to an associate’s degree and transferring to USC. If you have the degree though, that obviously means you’ve completed at least 60 units though and definitely knocked out pre-reqs and the math/writing requirement no? That would be a good thing for your chances

@hollandarden I transferred without completing my foreign language. You won’t get rejected just because you didn’t finish it  You will have to take a placement test though to see if you place into the third level language course. I thought the test was pretty hard, haha.

@hollandarden you said you completed 2 years of a foreign language, which I’m assuming means you already completed the third level of the language. This would mean you have fulfilled the foreign language requirement, but like zettyasyntax said, you do not need to finish the foreign language requirement before you transfer, but it is a graduation requirement. If you’re not transferring from a CC, I’d double check to make sure the foreign language courses you’ve taken can be used to fulfill the requirement.

@zettasyntax I remember your name from previous threads! I wanted to ask you, as a spring admit was it more of a challenge transitioning into USC?

Yea i have like 90 sum units cause of all the pre reqs for stem. Obviously not all of them are transferable lol. Ive done like more than 8 of the GE’s and will only need 3 more major prep classes after this semester. Ive been at elac for like 3 years im feigning to go to usc lol.

Having another panicky moment. :)) Do you guys think I should send in another letter through my portal explaining how I believe a course I am currently taking satisfies Marshall’s writing prerequisite? I’m transferring from a small 4-year LAC, so that is why everything is a mess for me.

Also, we were talking about this last night. Do any of you NOT have the third subsection under the “Eligibility Checks” section called, “Program of Study,” which states, “Your Program of Study eligibility has been confirmed,” in your FAST (Financial Aid) portal?

@aznboi4981 I don’t have it

@collegerose Honestly, it was a little difficult. A lot of people/transfers had already formed their own groups in the fall. However, the fellow transfers that I’ve met at USC are super helpful to each other. This one girl I met was a transfer and she showed me around USC. I guess she had a sense that I was lost and she insisted that I try to become a Topping Scholar like her and she also introduced me to the people at El Centro Chicano. I really felt at home there. The ethnic graduation ceremony that El Centro put on was probably my favorite of the various ceremonies (including the main commencement and the Dornsife ceremony). It just made me really happy for some reason. There’s a lot at USC, but you really need to seek it out. I’m pretty quiet/reserved by nature, so that’s probably why I had such a rocky start at first. I was lucky to have met that one girl though because I’m positive I would have been much too shy to discover things like El Centro by myself. By the time the fall semester rolled around, I really got into the groove of things and I felt like I didn’t stick out so much.

Would it be a good idea that when I resume communication with my counselor, it should be after May 31 (when the appeal status is made, yes I know the majority do nothing in the end)? I would be asking her to clarify info.

@giakhanhngo123 no i didnt  can u share your stats w ttp status and keep us updated please?

@SMCtoUSC @durtysouth im at smc too! what are you guys majoring in? this is my second year there
