@MYOS1634 fingers crossed
I feel all our kids applied to the same schools. My son also accepted to Purdue. Wisconsin as well, but neither of them are offering him a dime. The dark horse contender is Tennessee. Gave lots of merit. And it’s proximity to, and collaboration with, Oak Ridge National laboratory is a big plus (he’s nuclear engineering).
BUT, getting into SHC could tip the scales (as mentioned).
My son has Penn State pretty low on his list, I think, but I think SHC is make or break for him. So, fingers crossed.
My daughter was admitted (and attending) to SHC for the class of 2023. My son has applied for the class of 2024. Both are from the suburbs to the north of Philadelphia. Son was admitted to PSU and was also offered a Provost Award. If he gets into SHC - it will make the instate tuition really quite affordable relatively speaking.
Did you find out about the Provost award at For the Glory today? My son was invited to the event and it was already filled to capacity on the second day when he tried to RSVP. Really hoping PSU doesn’t pull anything shady and only offer the scholarship to those who replied first
Did they notify the recipients of the Provost Award yet? If they didn’t, does anyone know when they’ll do so?
I think it should come with your admission letter.
I don’t think that is the case. My son was accepted to Penn State back in October and the site says the first round was in December. I’m pretty sure they are awarded separately.
@seniorstudent926 The Provost Award website just says that its on a rolling basis starting in December.
Provost are rolling. My D is SHC and remember their SAT/ACT do NOT factor in at all. I don’t even think the Schreyer admission committe sees them. It is ALL about the essays. Provost and SHC scholarships do stack (my D has both). The decisions are released at same time online so all applicants get decision at same time. Good luck!
@cotton2017 if the Provost does not take the SAT/ACT into account, how are the students selected?
@Labmom324 they wrote a bunch of essays!
@Labmom324 they wrote a bunch of essays!
Are they the same essays that they completed for SHC? (Sorry, just trying to figure this out).
some confusion here…
SHC:
- not rolling, everyone hears at the same time
- SAT/ACT is not a factor
- essays are a big portion of the decision
- essays are specific to SHC
Provost:
- rolling
- essays not required
- every student is considered.
Eligibility Information
- Consideration is given to Pennsylvania and non-Pennsylvania residents.
- Recipients must be NEW undergraduate first-year students to the University.
- Every student with an offer of admission to Penn State (other than World Campus) is considered for the award.
- Students do not have to apply for the award – they are automatically considered.
- Penn State recommends submitting a FAFSA, although it is not a requirement to be eligible for the award.
- The award cannot be combined with the Discover Penn State Award.
@lucyvanpelt thank you for the clarification!
Are decisions likely this week? Anyone hear anything? Thanks!
Last year the decision was released Feb 19th. But there is no way in knowing, because I’m pretty sure the year before, class of 2022, the decision was in early March, I think March 13th. But no one knows, but let’s hope for Feb. 19th!
We stopped in during an accepted students day and were told that they would send out an email about a week before with the date of release.
Schreyer’s just announced that admission decisions will be posted to your admissions account at 3:30pm on 2/25/2020.
gl to everyone!
Looks like they are also going to have a waiting list this year - is that new?
