My son received Provost Scholarship at the For the Glory event. It was 24,000 over 4 years. 5,000 first 2 years, 7,000 last 2 years. He was not accepted to Schreyer.

Good Luck
70+% In-state, so they’re not making it any easier for out-of-staters. Weird since that extra $$$ would probably make a big difference for qualified OOSers. Oh well.
Son (Engineering) did not get SHC, but PSU does still have a shot on getting our OOS tuition money. This all depends on if they want to provide some sort of college or Provost scholarship money. Already received scholarship money from CU Boulder and waiting for Michigan and UMass Amherst (We are not need based)
@Chazer Penn State is not known for giving money to freshmen - of course, there are the exceptions, but not the rule. Even during Accepted Student Day, they said something along the lines of ‘we don’t give it to freshmen, we wait to see how you perform and juniors and seniors get it.’ Ask me in a few months if i see that happen!
not trying to be a naysayer, but trying to mentally prepare you…
OOS - Received Provost, but denied for SHC. I guess they figured Provost was enough. Oh well. Got to spread it around and narrow the gaps.
@lucyvanpelt Yes we do agree with that. At end of day, all his schools he is accepted to are very well academically and he will make the most from each of them; so if my son says he likes them all and can see himself there; it will boil down to value versus degree while also considering the soft elements (not numeric like rankings) such as, but not limited to: on campus research opportunities, Alumni, internship networking, job fairs, etc. and those processes around these. My DD as a senior at UMass Amherst this year, with similar stats as my son, got $12,000 per year merit OOS and in the Honors College, with 3 years of on-campus research, etc; so even though PSU might not give money, how will it make up in these other areas to make up for that. I guess that’s the million dollar question for us now while we wait for all the schools my son was admitted to.
@chazer while ALL of these schools are expensive thank goodness it isn’t quite the million $ question. PHEW! lol.

Depends how many kids you have.
@Chazer good luck with all those decisions. feel free to send me a pm and we can talk off-line -
@sxofus touche!!
Difference maker - Just received $15,500 per from a Big10 rival. Oh well.
My daughter was admitted to SHC, what do you think of this college?
Son accepted to Schreyers. Anyone have a real comparison to this opportunity vs a seat at Harvard or Yale? He had seat at Harvard and a likely letter from Yale. Initially he wants to persue a career in medicine. Schreyer seem great and it’s obviously less expensive but it seems like it may be poor decision to turn down either of those other schools for Schreyer. Anyone else in this situation currently? Also anyone with real information on how Schreyer specific students perform in terms of rate of medical school acceptance? I asked someone at schreyer and they seems to just direct me to a general university department. I would think this would be data they would track and show proudly if it were favorable. Any input appreciated.
@PAdude , med school acceptance rate is a difficult figure to put together with accuracy as many freshmen intend to go the premed route and change their mind. Likewise, if they don’t have the GPA for med school, they won’t get the committee’s recommendation letter. Therefore, any acceptance rate would be based off those students who stayed premed, got beyond weed out courses, got the high GPA and MCAT score, got the recommendation letter, AND actually applied to med school. It would appear falsely high. If your son is seriously committed to going to med school, it may be a better strategy to go to PSU Schreyers where he can excel and be at the top of his class. He will have access to a ton of resources and research, and is more likely to get the grades needed to get into med school.
@PAdude would agree with @Sophley. My Daughter is a Sr at UMass Amherst pre med track with a degree in Bio/Neuro. Its all about what you do in college with Research, great grades, and admittance test scores (MCAT). Also a big piece is getting clinical hours (My DD is a EMT and works at local hospital in ER as an ER tech, or getting on an ambulance service, etc. Good luck
The opposite position is that if a student is among the vast, vast majority of students who never makes it to Med school, s/he’s better off at Harvard
In addition, resources/opportunities at Schreyer are superb but they just are an order of magnitude less than what HYP have at their disposal.
Now, for a dedicated pre-med, Schreyer does allow for excellent balance between harder courses and lighter classes, and Maymester/summer session allows for lighter semesters. In addition, they have some places for their top premed freshmen to work at Hershey over the summer.
Look up Alex Bourcier Schreyer.
Hi - curious to know, did you end up clearing the waitlist?
