look at the title

SATs: 2230 (760 CR, 720 Math, 750 W) --- should I take these over?

i think these are great scores. You could try to retake math ifyou want however.

is this your first time? or 2nd? if it is you could and just send what scores you have now and if you do worse no biggie.

But, i would say those are good enough not to retake especially if you are not majoring in the sciences.

These next few years are going to be insane. I would retake.

No 10 chars

Those are great, competitive scores, however, if this is your first testing, I would try my hand at a retake. Also, if you are doing math/sci a retake is a must.

Those are competitive but may not get you into Yale. The 25% for M and V is 700, the 75% is 790. It's a crapshoot as it is to get in.

I'm definitely not majoring in sciences...
it is my first time, yes...

and, oh, yale takes the highest of each section, as does columbia (2nd choice)...I'm probably gonna go down in reading, but I think I can improve math a and writing a little bit
my goal is 760 CR 760 M 780 W

the valedictorian of my school got into yale with a 2230.

hmm, but I won't be a valedictorian :P
how were his/her extracurriculars?

personally, i dont think you should retake it..
a 2330 is well above the average for almost every college in the US. i think colleges would rather you spend your time volunteering or pursuing your interests (i know, very cliched answer...)

if i got anything above a 2200 i wouldnt retake

I wish I got a 2330 :P

The rule of thumb is that once you hit 2200 you're adequately competitive for Ivies. Like people above have said, beyond that your time would be better spent doing other things.

So much of the info on this thread is irresponsible. Just check the common data sets, your chances go up very significantly between 2200 and 2400.

Yep.

That's weird. So your odds go down if you have scores in 98 Percentile for Princeton ?

Or is it just because tons of people with those score apply there, decreasing the odds anyway.

how about 2190?

Obviously a higher SAT score will not hurt you - but keep in mind that many of those kids (though of course definitely not all) who are getting the 2300+ are just that dedicated and often "smart," which of course will carry over and influence much of the rest of the application.

some kid got into yale from my school with a 90 avg and 1930 sats

This person I know got into Yale this year with a 1920. He didn't even have 1400 M+V. So if you're a minority, congrats on your admission. Otherwise,eh...maybe
